Ligands of this family bind various TGF-beta receptors leading to recruitment and activation of SMAD family transcription factors that regulate gene expression. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate N- and C-terminal cleavage products that homodimerize and associate to form a biologically active noncovalent complex. This complex binds to the anti-Mullerian hormone receptor type 2 and causes the regression of Mullerian ducts in the male embryo that would otherwise differentiate into the uterus and fallopian tubes. This protein also plays a role in Leydig cell differentiation and function and follicular development in adult females. Mutations in this gene result in persistent Mullerian duct syndrome. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2016]. * **UniProt Summary**: This glycoprotein, produced by the Sertoli cells of the testis, causes regression of the Muellerian duct. It is also able to inhibit the growth of tumors derived from tissues of Muellerian duct origin. |AMH N| |TGF beta| |negative regulation of ovarian follicle development| |preantral ovarian follicle growth| |multi-layer follicle stage| |Mullerian duct regression| |negative regulation of female gonad development| |negative regulation of gonad development| |regulation of ovarian follicle development| |mammalian oogenesis stage| |gonadal mesoderm development| |anatomical structure regression| |regulation of female gonad development| |regulation of gonad development| |sex determination| |transforming growth factor beta receptor binding| |ovulation cycle process| |ovarian follicle development| |negative regulation of reproductive process| |ovulation cycle| |oogenesis| |female gonad development| |BMP signaling pathway| |development of primary female sexual characteristics| |hormone activity| |cellular response to BMP stimulus| |response to BMP| |female sex differentiation| |mesoderm development| |female gamete generation| |positive regulation of NF-kappaB transcription factor activity| |male sex differentiation| |regulation of reproductive process| |growth factor activity| |transmembrane receptor protein serine/threonine kinase signaling pathway| |gonad development| |development of primary sexual characteristics| |mesenchyme development| |germ cell development| |positive regulation of DNA-binding transcription factor activity| |sex differentiation| |rhythmic process| |aging| |urogenital system development| |signaling receptor binding| |cellular process involved in reproduction in multicellular organism| |growth| |reproductive structure development| |regulation of DNA-binding transcription factor activity| |reproductive system development| |cellular response to growth factor stimulus| |response to growth factor| |developmental process involved in reproduction| |gamete generation| |enzyme linked receptor protein signaling pathway| |multicellular organismal reproductive process| |sexual reproduction| |multicellular organism reproduction| |response to organic cyclic compound| |negative regulation of developmental process| |multi-organism reproductive process| |response to drug| |cell-cell signaling| |negative regulation of multicellular organismal process| |cellular response to endogenous stimulus| |reproductive process| |reproduction| |response to endogenous stimulus| |extracellular space| |cell development| |tissue development| |positive regulation of molecular function| |extracellular region| |positive regulation of gene expression| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp190|Vincristine 0.0005μM R04 exp190]]|-1.9| |[[:results:exp78|Pterostilbene 16μM R02 exp78]]|1.82| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
