The encoded protein forms a complex with alpha-2, beta, and delta subunits to form the high-voltage activated channel. This channel is sensitive to omega-conotoxin-GVIA and omega-agatoxin-IIIA but insensitive to dihydropyridines. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2011]. * **UniProt Summary**: Voltage-sensitive calcium channels (VSCC) mediate the entry of calcium ions into excitable cells and are also involved in a variety of calcium-dependent processes, including muscle contraction, hormone or neurotransmitter release, gene expression, cell motility, cell division and cell death. The isoform alpha-1B gives rise to N-type calcium currents. N-type calcium channels belong to the 'high-voltage activated' (HVA) group and are blocked by omega-conotoxin-GVIA (omega-CTx-GVIA) and by omega-agatoxin- IIIA (omega-Aga-IIIA). They are however insensitive to dihydropyridines (DHP), and omega-agatoxin-IVA (omega-Aga-IVA). Calcium channels containing alpha-1B subunit may play a role in directed migration of immature neurons. |PKD channel| |Ion trans| |Ca chan IQ| |high voltage-gated calcium channel activity| |voltage-gated calcium channel complex| |response to pain| |voltage-gated calcium channel activity| |calcium ion import| |response to amyloid-beta| |membrane depolarization| |multicellular organismal response to stress| |amyloid-beta binding| |presynapse| |signal release from synapse| |neurotransmitter secretion| |signal release| |neurotransmitter transport| |regulation of blood pressure| |protein C-terminus binding| |locomotory behavior| |calcium ion transmembrane transport| |regulation of heart contraction| |regulation of calcium ion transport| |calcium ion transport| |regulation of blood circulation| |divalent metal ion transport| |divalent inorganic cation transport| |regulation of neurotransmitter levels| |neuronal cell body| |regulation of metal ion transport| |blood circulation| |circulatory system process| |dendrite| |anterograde trans-synaptic signaling| |chemical synaptic transmission| |regulation of membrane potential| |trans-synaptic signaling| |modulation of chemical synaptic transmission| |regulation of trans-synaptic signaling| |synaptic signaling| |response to peptide| |regulation of ion transmembrane transport| |inorganic cation transmembrane transport| |regulation of transmembrane transport| |behavior| |regulation of system process| |cation transmembrane transport| |metal ion transport| |inorganic ion transmembrane transport| |regulation of ion transport| |calcium ion binding| |cation transport| |ion transmembrane transport| |response to organonitrogen compound| |secretion by cell| |export from cell| |response to nitrogen compound| |cell-cell signaling| |secretion| |transmembrane transport| |ion transport| |ATP binding| |response to oxygen-containing compound| |establishment of localization in cell| |regulation of transport| |system process| \\ === CRISPR Data === No hits were found.
