Cadherins consist of an extracellular domain containing 5 cadherin domains, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic domain. Transcripts from this particular cadherin are expressed in myoblasts and upregulated in myotubule-forming cells. The protein is thought to be essential for the control of morphogenetic processes, specifically myogenesis, and may provide a trigger for terminal muscle cell differentiation. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **UniProt Summary**: Cadherins are calcium-dependent cell adhesion proteins. They preferentially interact with themselves in a homophilic manner in connecting cells; cadherins may thus contribute to the sorting of heterogeneous cell types. M-cadherin is part of the myogenic program and may provide a trigger for terminal muscle differentiation. |Cadherin C| |Cadherin| |cell-cell adhesion mediated by cadherin| |catenin complex| |calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion via plasma membrane cell adhesion molecules| |caveola| |cytoskeletal protein binding| |neuromuscular junction| |adherens junction organization| |positive regulation of muscle cell differentiation| |cell-cell adherens junction| |cell-cell junction assembly| |cell-cell junction organization| |regulation of muscle cell differentiation| |cell junction assembly| |homophilic cell adhesion via plasma membrane adhesion molecules| |cell junction organization| |cell-cell adhesion via plasma-membrane adhesion molecules| |cadherin binding| |cell-cell adhesion| |cell surface| |calcium ion binding| |cell morphogenesis| |cellular component morphogenesis| |protein homodimerization activity| |cell adhesion| |biological adhesion| |positive regulation of cell differentiation| |Golgi apparatus| |positive regulation of developmental process| |regulation of cell differentiation| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp230|Epigallocatechin gallate 20μM R05 exp230]]|-1.76| ^Gene^Correlation^ |[[:human genes:h:hgc6.3|HGC6.3]]|0.404| Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **Essentiality Rank**: 3238 * **Expression level (log2 read counts)**: 1.0 {{:chemogenomics:nalm6 dist.png?nolink |}}
