The glycoside hydrolase 18 family of chitinases includes eight human family members. This gene encodes a glycoprotein member of the glycosyl hydrolase 18 family. The protein lacks chitinase activity and is secreted by activated macrophages, chondrocytes, neutrophils and synovial cells. The protein is thought to play a role in the process of inflammation and tissue remodeling. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]. * **UniProt Summary**: Carbohydrate-binding lectin with a preference for chitin. Has no chitinase activity. May play a role in tissue remodeling and in the capacity of cells to respond to and cope with changes in their environment. Plays a role in T-helper cell type 2 (Th2) inflammatory response and IL-13-induced inflammation, regulating allergen sensitization, inflammatory cell apoptosis, dendritic cell accumulation and M2 macrophage differentiation. Facilitates invasion of pathogenic enteric bacteria into colonic mucosa and lymphoid organs. Mediates activation of AKT1 signaling pathway and subsequent IL8 production in colonic epithelial cells. Regulates antibacterial responses in lung by contributing to macrophage bacterial killing, controlling bacterial dissemination and augmenting host tolerance. Also regulates hyperoxia-induced injury, inflammation and epithelial apoptosis in lung. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:16472595, ECO:0000269|PubMed:19414556, ECO:0000269|PubMed:20558631, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9492324}. |Glyco hydro 18| |interleukin-8 secretion| |chitinase activity| |chitin binding| |interleukin-8 production| |activation of NF-kappaB-inducing kinase activity| |positive regulation of peptidyl-threonine phosphorylation| |response to interleukin-6| |regulation of peptidyl-threonine phosphorylation| |cytokine secretion| |specific granule lumen| |positive regulation of NIK/NF-kappaB signaling| |NIK/NF-kappaB signaling| |regulation of NIK/NF-kappaB signaling| |extracellular matrix structural constituent| |cytokine production| |protein secretion| |establishment of protein localization to extracellular region| |positive regulation of angiogenesis| |protein localization to extracellular region| |positive regulation of protein kinase B signaling| |lung development| |cartilage development| |respiratory tube development| |carbohydrate binding| |peptide secretion| |cellular response to interleukin-1| |positive regulation of vasculature development| |respiratory system development| |response to interleukin-1| |positive regulation of ERK1 and ERK2 cascade| |response to mechanical stimulus| |regulation of protein kinase B signaling| |connective tissue development| |extracellular matrix| |cellular response to tumor necrosis factor| |response to tumor necrosis factor| |regulation of angiogenesis| |regulation of ERK1 and ERK2 cascade| |regulation of vasculature development| |activation of protein kinase activity| |carbohydrate metabolic process| |neutrophil degranulation| |neutrophil activation involved in immune response| |skeletal system development| |inflammatory response| |neutrophil mediated immunity| |neutrophil activation| |granulocyte activation| |leukocyte degranulation| |myeloid leukocyte mediated immunity| |myeloid cell activation involved in immune response| |positive regulation of protein kinase activity| |positive regulation of MAPK cascade| |positive regulation of kinase activity| |myeloid leukocyte activation| |leukocyte activation involved in immune response| |cell activation involved in immune response| |positive regulation of transferase activity| |perinuclear region of cytoplasm| |regulated exocytosis| |regulation of MAPK cascade| |leukocyte mediated immunity| |exocytosis| |regulation of protein kinase activity| |tube development| |regulation of kinase activity| |apoptotic process| |leukocyte activation| |regulation of transferase activity| |secretion by cell| |cellular response to cytokine stimulus| |endoplasmic reticulum| |positive regulation of protein phosphorylation| |positive regulation of intracellular signal transduction| |export from cell| |programmed cell death| |positive regulation of phosphorylation| |regulation of anatomical structure morphogenesis| |cell activation| |immune effector process| |cell death| |response to cytokine| |secretion| |positive regulation of phosphorus metabolic process| |positive regulation of phosphate metabolic process| |response to abiotic stimulus| |positive regulation of protein modification process| |defense response| |positive regulation of developmental process| |positive regulation of catalytic activity| |regulation of protein phosphorylation| |protein transport| |peptide transport| |amide transport| |regulation of phosphorylation| |extracellular space| |positive regulation of cellular protein metabolic process| |establishment of protein localization| |positive regulation of signal transduction| |intracellular signal transduction| |positive regulation of protein metabolic process| |positive regulation of multicellular organismal process| |tissue development| |positive regulation of molecular function| |regulation of phosphate metabolic process| |regulation of phosphorus metabolic process| |positive regulation of cell communication| |positive regulation of signaling| |regulation of intracellular signal transduction| |nitrogen compound transport| |regulation of protein modification process| |immune response| |extracellular region| |vesicle-mediated transport| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp298|Sucrose 20000μM R06 exp298]]|-1.8| |[[:results:exp25|Oligomycin-A 2μM R00 exp25]]|1.77| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
