This gene, which encodes the gamma subunit, is expressed prior to the thirty-third week of gestation in humans. The gamma subunit of the acetylcholine receptor plays a role in neuromuscular organogenesis and ligand binding and disruption of gamma subunit expression prevents the correct localization of the receptor in cell membranes. Mutations in this gene cause Escobar syndrome and a lethal form of multiple pterygium syndrome. Muscle-type acetylcholine receptor is the major antigen in the autoimmune disease myasthenia gravis.[provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]. * **UniProt Summary**: After binding acetylcholine, the AChR responds by an extensive change in conformation that affects all subunits and leads to opening of an ion-conducting channel across the plasma membrane. |Neur chan LBD| |Neur chan memb| |channel activity| |acetylcholine receptor activity| |acetylcholine-gated cation-selective channel activity| |acetylcholine binding| |acetylcholine-gated channel complex| |synaptic transmission, cholinergic| |neuromuscular synaptic transmission| |extracellular ligand-gated ion channel activity| |response to nicotine| |excitatory postsynaptic potential| |chemical synaptic transmission, postsynaptic| |regulation of postsynaptic membrane potential| |postsynaptic membrane| |muscle contraction| |synapse| |muscle system process| |neuron projection| |anterograde trans-synaptic signaling| |chemical synaptic transmission| |cell surface receptor signaling pathway involved in cell-cell signaling| |regulation of membrane potential| |trans-synaptic signaling| |synaptic signaling| |response to toxic substance| |cell junction| |ion transmembrane transport| |response to drug| |cell-cell signaling| |transmembrane transport| |ion transport| |nervous system process| |integral component of plasma membrane| |system process| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp498|Lead acetate 2000μM R08 exp498 no dilution day6]]|-1.71| |[[:results:exp262|Alda-1 10μM R06 exp262]]|-1.7| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
