It is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored neuronal membrane protein that functions as a cell adhesion molecule. It may play a role in the formation of axon connections in the developing nervous system. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2011]. * **UniProt Summary**: Contactins mediate cell surface interactions during nervous system development. Involved in the formation of paranodal axo-glial junctions in myelinated peripheral nerves and in the signaling between axons and myelinating glial cells via its association with CNTNAP1. Participates in oligodendrocytes generation by acting as a ligand of NOTCH1. Its association with NOTCH1 promotes NOTCH1 activation through the released notch intracellular domain (NICD) and subsequent translocation to the nucleus. Interaction with TNR induces a repulsion of neurons and an inhibition of neurite outgrowth (By similarity). {ECO:0000250}. |V-set| |fn3| |ig| |I-set| |anchored component of postsynaptic membrane| |anchored component of presynaptic membrane| |positive regulation of sodium ion transport| |regulation of sodium ion transport| |cerebellum development| |metencephalon development| |Notch signaling pathway| |hindbrain development| |carbohydrate binding| |positive regulation of peptidyl-tyrosine phosphorylation| |membrane raft| |regulation of peptidyl-tyrosine phosphorylation| |positive regulation of ion transport| |positive regulation of neuron projection development| |positive regulation of neuron differentiation| |positive regulation of cell projection organization| |regulation of metal ion transport| |positive regulation of neurogenesis| |regulation of neuron projection development| |positive regulation of nervous system development| |positive regulation of cell development| |regulation of neuron differentiation| |neuron projection development| |regulation of plasma membrane bounded cell projection organization| |regulation of ion transport| |regulation of cell projection organization| |brain development| |head development| |neuron development| |regulation of neurogenesis| |regulation of nervous system development| |cell adhesion| |regulation of cell development| |biological adhesion| |positive regulation of cell differentiation| |central nervous system development| |positive regulation of transport| |neuron differentiation| |positive regulation of protein phosphorylation| |positive regulation of phosphorylation| |plasma membrane bounded cell projection organization| |positive regulation of phosphate metabolic process| |positive regulation of phosphorus metabolic process| |cell projection organization| |positive regulation of cellular component organization| |positive regulation of protein modification process| |positive regulation of developmental process| |regulation of protein phosphorylation| |generation of neurons| |regulation of phosphorylation| |positive regulation of cellular protein metabolic process| |neurogenesis| |cell development| |positive regulation of protein metabolic process| |positive regulation of multicellular organismal process| |regulation of phosphate metabolic process| |regulation of phosphorus metabolic process| |regulation of cell differentiation| |regulation of protein modification process| |regulation of transport| |positive regulation of gene expression| |membrane| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp5|Alpha-Amanitin 0.5μM R00 exp5]]|1.74| |[[:results:exp293|Myriocin 25μM R06 exp293]]|1.9| |[[:results:exp275|Citral 75μM R06 exp275]]|2.01| |[[:results:exp123|GSK-LSD1 10μM R03 exp123]]|2.08| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
