Fibrillar collagen molecules are trimers that can be composed of one or more types of alpha chains. Type V collagen is found in tissues containing type I collagen and appears to regulate the assembly of heterotypic fibers composed of both type I and type V collagen. This gene product is closely related to type XI collagen and it is possible that the collagen chains of types V and XI constitute a single collagen type with tissue-specific chain combinations. The encoded procollagen protein occurs commonly as the heterotrimer pro-alpha1(V)-pro-alpha1(V)-pro-alpha2(V). Mutations in this gene are associated with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, types I and II. Alternative splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, May 2013]. * **UniProt Summary**: Type V collagen is a member of group I collagen (fibrillar forming collagen). It is a minor connective tissue component of nearly ubiquitous distribution. Type V collagen binds to DNA, heparan sulfate, thrombospondin, heparin, and insulin. |Laminin G 2| |COLFI| |Collagen| |integrin biosynthetic process| |collagen type V trimer| |negative regulation of endodermal cell differentiation| |regulation of endodermal cell differentiation| |tendon development| |negative regulation of gastrulation| |collagen biosynthetic process| |wound healing, spreading of epidermal cells| |platelet-derived growth factor binding| |proteoglycan binding| |epiboly involved in wound healing| |wound healing, spreading of cells| |epiboly| |negative regulation of embryonic development| |regulation of gastrulation| |extracellular matrix structural constituent conferring tensile strength| |collagen fibril organization| |morphogenesis of an epithelial sheet| |collagen metabolic process| |basement membrane| |plasma membrane organization| |regulation of embryonic development| |integrin binding| |extracellular matrix structural constituent| |eye morphogenesis| |heparin binding| |connective tissue development| |extracellular matrix| |heart morphogenesis| |sensory organ morphogenesis| |endoplasmic reticulum lumen| |extracellular matrix organization| |eye development| |visual system development| |collagen-containing extracellular matrix| |sensory system development| |skin development| |extracellular structure organization| |endomembrane system organization| |morphogenesis of an epithelium| |supramolecular fiber organization| |wound healing| |blood vessel development| |vasculature development| |cardiovascular system development| |heart development| |sensory organ development| |tissue morphogenesis| |response to wounding| |negative regulation of cell differentiation| |membrane organization| |circulatory system development| |cell adhesion| |biological adhesion| |negative regulation of developmental process| |animal organ morphogenesis| |cell migration| |regulation of anatomical structure morphogenesis| |cell motility| |localization of cell| |epithelium development| |negative regulation of multicellular organismal process| |locomotion| |movement of cell or subcellular component| |extracellular space| |tissue development| |macromolecule biosynthetic process| |regulation of cell differentiation| |protein-containing complex subunit organization| |extracellular region| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp289|Hydroxyurea 15μM R06 exp289]]|1.94| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
