The cytochrome P450 proteins are monooxygenases which catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. This endoplasmic reticulum protein is involved in the conversion of cholesterol to bile acids. Its substrates include the oxysterols 25-hydroxycholesterol, 27-hydroxycholesterol and 24-hydroxycholesterol. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2013]. * **UniProt Summary**: Involved in the bile acid metabolism. Has a preference for 24-hydroxycholesterol, and converts it into a 7-alpha- hydroxylated product. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10748047}. |p450| |steroid 7-alpha-hydroxylase activity| |oxysterol 7-alpha-hydroxylase activity| |bile acid catabolic process| |cholesterol catabolic process| |sterol catabolic process| |bile acid biosynthetic process| |steroid catabolic process| |bile acid metabolic process| |alcohol catabolic process| |organic hydroxy compound catabolic process| |cholesterol homeostasis| |sterol homeostasis| |digestion| |monocarboxylic acid catabolic process| |cholesterol metabolic process| |steroid biosynthetic process| |secondary alcohol metabolic process| |iron ion binding| |lipid homeostasis| |sterol metabolic process| |heme binding| |monocarboxylic acid biosynthetic process| |organic hydroxy compound biosynthetic process| |steroid metabolic process| |carboxylic acid catabolic process| |organic acid catabolic process| |lipid catabolic process| |carboxylic acid biosynthetic process| |organic acid biosynthetic process| |alcohol metabolic process| |small molecule catabolic process| |organic hydroxy compound metabolic process| |organic cyclic compound catabolic process| |monocarboxylic acid metabolic process| |lipid biosynthetic process| |small molecule biosynthetic process| |intracellular membrane-bounded organelle| |carboxylic acid metabolic process| |endoplasmic reticulum membrane| |oxidation-reduction process| |oxoacid metabolic process| |organic acid metabolic process| |chemical homeostasis| |lipid metabolic process| |organic cyclic compound biosynthetic process| |homeostatic process| |small molecule metabolic process| |organic substance catabolic process| |cellular catabolic process| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp65|Mubritinib 0.2μM R02 exp65]]|-1.88| |[[:results:exp198|Etoposide 0.1μM R05 exp198]]|1.71| |[[:results:exp139|Nicotinamide Riboside 100μM R03 exp139]]|1.86| |[[:results:exp419|Tunicamycin 0.04 to 0.075μM on day4 R07 exp419]]|1.99| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
