Defects in this gene are the cause of aromatic L-amino-acid decarboxylase deficiency (AADCD). AADCD deficiency is an inborn error in neurotransmitter metabolism that leads to combined serotonin and catecholamine deficiency. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2011]. * **UniProt Summary**: Catalyzes the decarboxylation of L-3,4- dihydroxyphenylalanine (DOPA) to dopamine, L-5-hydroxytryptophan to serotonin and L-tryptophan to tryptamine. |Pyridoxal deC| |Beta elim lyase| |L-dopa decarboxylase activity| |aromatic-L-amino-acid decarboxylase activity| |phytoalexin metabolic process| |isoquinoline alkaloid metabolic process| |serotonin biosynthetic process| |aminergic neurotransmitter loading into synaptic vesicle| |response to pyrethroid| |indolalkylamine biosynthetic process| |primary amino compound biosynthetic process| |indole-containing compound biosynthetic process| |amine transport| |alkaloid metabolic process| |neurotransmitter loading into synaptic vesicle| |serotonin metabolic process| |dopamine biosynthetic process| |primary amino compound metabolic process| |response to insecticide| |indolalkylamine metabolic process| |amino acid binding| |catecholamine biosynthetic process| |catechol-containing compound biosynthetic process| |cellular biogenic amine biosynthetic process| |toxin metabolic process| |indole-containing compound metabolic process| |amine biosynthetic process| |dopamine metabolic process| |phenol-containing compound biosynthetic process| |cellular response to alkaloid| |multicellular organism aging| |neurotransmitter biosynthetic process| |catecholamine metabolic process| |catechol-containing compound metabolic process| |pyridoxal phosphate binding| |secondary metabolic process| |cellular biogenic amine metabolic process| |cellular amine metabolic process| |amine metabolic process| |phenol-containing compound metabolic process| |neurotransmitter metabolic process| |response to alkaloid| |synaptic vesicle cycle| |synaptic vesicle| |vesicle-mediated transport in synapse| |circadian rhythm| |neurotransmitter transport| |organic hydroxy compound biosynthetic process| |ammonium ion metabolic process| |protein domain specific binding| |rhythmic process| |aging| |axon| |cellular amino acid metabolic process| |enzyme binding| |regulation of neurotransmitter levels| |neuronal cell body| |cellular response to drug| |organic hydroxy compound metabolic process| |cellular response to growth factor stimulus| |drug metabolic process| |response to toxic substance| |response to growth factor| |cellular response to organonitrogen compound| |cellular response to nitrogen compound| |carboxylic acid metabolic process| |response to organonitrogen compound| |oxoacid metabolic process| |response to drug| |organic acid metabolic process| |response to nitrogen compound| |heterocycle biosynthetic process| |aromatic compound biosynthetic process| |cellular response to endogenous stimulus| |organic cyclic compound biosynthetic process| |organonitrogen compound biosynthetic process| |response to endogenous stimulus| |cellular nitrogen compound biosynthetic process| |small molecule metabolic process| |establishment of localization in cell| |nitrogen compound transport| |vesicle-mediated transport| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp135|MS023 7μM R03 exp135]]|-1.72| |[[:results:exp244|SB743921 0.001μM R05 exp244]]|1.96| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
