These receptors are heteromeric protein complexes with multiple subunits, each possessing transmembrane regions, and all arranged to form a ligand-gated ion channel. The classification of glutamate receptors is based on their activation by different pharmacologic agonists. This gene belongs to a family of alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazole propionate (AMPA) receptors. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **UniProt Summary**: Ionotropic glutamate receptor. L-glutamate acts as an excitatory neurotransmitter at many synapses in the central nervous system. Binding of the excitatory neurotransmitter L- glutamate induces a conformation change, leading to the opening of the cation channel, and thereby converts the chemical signal to an electrical impulse. The receptor then desensitizes rapidly and enters a transient inactive state, characterized by the presence of bound agonist. In the presence of CACNG4 or CACNG7 or CACNG8, shows resensitization which is characterized by a delayed accumulation of current flux upon continued application of glutamate. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:20805473, ECO:0000269|PubMed:21172611}. |SBP bac 3| |ANF receptor| |Lig chan-Glu bd| |Lig chan| |neurotransmitter receptor activity involved in regulation of postsynaptic cytosolic calcium ion concentration| |axonal spine| |AMPA glutamate receptor activity| |neuron spine| |regulation of postsynaptic cytosolic calcium ion concentration| |dendritic spine membrane| |glutamate receptor activity| |long-term synaptic depression| |ionotropic glutamate receptor signaling pathway| |synaptic membrane| |AMPA glutamate receptor complex| |long-term memory| |transmitter-gated ion channel activity involved in regulation of postsynaptic membrane potential| |regulation of NMDA receptor activity| |glutamate receptor signaling pathway| |integral component of postsynaptic density membrane| |ER to Golgi transport vesicle membrane| |negative regulation of synaptic transmission| |receptor internalization| |COPII vesicle coating| |vesicle targeting, rough ER to cis-Golgi| |regulation of glutamate receptor signaling pathway| |vesicle coating| |endocytic vesicle membrane| |COPII-coated vesicle budding| |endoplasmic reticulum-Golgi intermediate compartment membrane| |vesicle targeting, to, from or within Golgi| |regulation of neurotransmitter receptor activity| |Golgi vesicle budding| |amyloid-beta binding| |recycling endosome membrane| |PDZ domain binding| |vesicle targeting| |vesicle budding from membrane| |regulation of postsynaptic membrane potential| |receptor metabolic process| |recycling endosome| |memory| |synaptic vesicle| |dendritic spine| |early endosome membrane| |regulation of cation channel activity| |regulation of signaling receptor activity| |establishment of vesicle localization| |vesicle localization| |regulation of synaptic plasticity| |endoplasmic reticulum to Golgi vesicle-mediated transport| |receptor-mediated endocytosis| |postsynaptic density| |regulation of ion transmembrane transporter activity| |learning or memory| |regulation of transmembrane transporter activity| |regulation of transporter activity| |cognition| |vesicle organization| |regulation of cytosolic calcium ion concentration| |regulation of cation transmembrane transport| |glutamatergic synapse| |establishment of organelle localization| |neuronal cell body| |Golgi vesicle transport| |anterograde trans-synaptic signaling| |chemical synaptic transmission| |dendrite| |regulation of membrane potential| |cellular calcium ion homeostasis| |trans-synaptic signaling| |modulation of chemical synaptic transmission| |regulation of trans-synaptic signaling| |calcium ion homeostasis| |synaptic signaling| |cellular divalent inorganic cation homeostasis| |regulation of ion transmembrane transport| |divalent inorganic cation homeostasis| |cell junction| |endocytosis| |cellular metal ion homeostasis| |regulation of transmembrane transport| |behavior| |organelle localization| |cell surface| |Golgi membrane| |metal ion homeostasis| |cellular cation homeostasis| |cellular ion homeostasis| |import into cell| |regulation of ion transport| |cation homeostasis| |inorganic ion homeostasis| |cellular chemical homeostasis| |ion homeostasis| |membrane organization| |cellular homeostasis| |endoplasmic reticulum membrane| |ion transmembrane transport| |chemical homeostasis| |cell-cell signaling| |transmembrane transport| |negative regulation of cell communication| |negative regulation of signaling| |ion transport| |nervous system process| |intracellular transport| |protein-containing complex assembly| |homeostatic process| |establishment of localization in cell| |protein-containing complex subunit organization| |regulation of transport| |vesicle-mediated transport| |system process| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp495|IWR1 50μM R08 exp495]]|-2.28| |[[:results:exp472|CI-1040 9.5μM R08 exp472]]|1.85| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
