The VRAC channel conducts iodide better than chloride and may also conduct organic osmolytes like taurine. Channel activity requires LRRC8A plus at least one other family member (LRRC8B, LRRC8C, LRRC8D or LRRC8E); channel characteristics depend on the precise subunit composition (PubMed:24790029, PubMed:26824658). LRRC8A and LRRC8D are required for the uptake of the drug cisplatin (PubMed:26530471). Mediates the import of the antibiotic blasticidin-S into the cell (PubMed:24782309). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:24782309, ECO:0000269|PubMed:24790029, ECO:0000269|PubMed:26530471, ECO:0000269|PubMed:26824658}. |DUF3733| |LRR 4| |taurine transport| |alkanesulfonate transport| |volume-sensitive anion channel activity| |ion channel complex| |aspartate transmembrane transport| |xenobiotic transport| |C4-dicarboxylate transport| |cellular response to osmotic stress| |sulfur compound transport| |acidic amino acid transport| |response to osmotic stress| |amino acid transmembrane transport| |dicarboxylic acid transport| |amino acid transport| |organic acid transmembrane transport| |carboxylic acid transmembrane transport| |inorganic anion transport| |anion transmembrane transport| |organic acid transport| |carboxylic acid transport| |cellular response to abiotic stimulus| |cellular response to environmental stimulus| |organic anion transport| |anion transport| |endoplasmic reticulum membrane| |ion transmembrane transport| |response to abiotic stimulus| |transmembrane transport| |ion transport| |integral component of plasma membrane| |cellular response to stress| |nitrogen compound transport| |membrane| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp432|YM155 0.001μM R08 exp432]]|-1.96| |[[:results:exp228|Demecolcine 0.03μM R05 exp228]]|-1.76| |[[:results:exp129|Isonicotinamide 500μM R03 exp129]]|-1.73| |[[:results:exp234|Ethanol 0.01 R05 exp234]]|1.78| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
