This gene maps to the same region as the locus for benign neonatal epilepsy. Mice deficient for this gene have increased fat mass despite decreased food intake, suggesting a role for this gene product in the regulation of energy homeostasis. Mutations in this gene are associated with a susceptibility to obesity in humans. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **UniProt Summary**: Receptor for MSH (alpha, beta and gamma) and ACTH. This receptor is mediated by G proteins which activate adenylate cyclase. Required for expression of anticipatory patterns of activity and wakefulness during periods of limited nutrient availability and for the normal regulation of circadian clock activity in the brain. {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:P33033}. |7TM GPCR Srsx| |7tm 1| |homoiothermy| |melanocyte-stimulating hormone receptor activity| |melanocortin receptor activity| |locomotor rhythm| |neuropeptide binding| |circadian behavior| |rhythmic behavior| |regulation of feeding behavior| |temperature homeostasis| |sodium ion homeostasis| |peptide hormone binding| |circadian regulation of gene expression| |regulation of behavior| |phospholipase C-activating G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway| |regulation of heart rate| |adenylate cyclase-activating G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway| |monovalent inorganic cation homeostasis| |circadian rhythm| |cAMP-mediated signaling| |cyclic-nucleotide-mediated signaling| |regulation of blood pressure| |locomotory behavior| |adenylate cyclase-modulating G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway| |regulation of heart contraction| |G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway, coupled to cyclic nucleotide second messenger| |rhythmic process| |regulation of blood circulation| |multicellular organismal homeostasis| |second-messenger-mediated signaling| |blood circulation| |circulatory system process| |behavior| |regulation of system process| |metal ion homeostasis| |cation homeostasis| |inorganic ion homeostasis| |ion homeostasis| |chemical homeostasis| |G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway| |integral component of plasma membrane| |homeostatic process| |intracellular signal transduction| |system process| \\ === CRISPR Data === No hits were found.
