Elevated expression of the encoded protein is associated with metastatic melanoma and this protein promotes melanoma cell invasion independent of its enzymatic activity. Mutations in this gene may be associated with vanishing white matter disease (VMWD). [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2016]. * **UniProt Summary**: Catalyzes the interconversion of methylthioribose-1- phosphate (MTR-1-P) into methylthioribulose-1-phosphate (MTRu-1- P). Independently from catalytic activity, promotes cell invasion in response to constitutive RhoA activation by promoting FAK tyrosine phosphorylation and stress fiber turnover. {ECO:0000255|HAMAP-Rule:MF_03119, ECO:0000269|PubMed:19620624}. |IF-2B| |S-methyl-5-thioribose-1-phosphate isomerase activity| |L-methionine salvage from S-adenosylmethionine| |L-methionine salvage from methylthioadenosine| |S-adenosylmethionine cycle| |L-methionine salvage| |L-methionine biosynthetic process| |amino acid salvage| |methionine biosynthetic process| |methionine metabolic process| |S-adenosylmethionine metabolic process| |sulfur amino acid biosynthetic process| |aspartate family amino acid biosynthetic process| |cellular metabolic compound salvage| |sulfur amino acid metabolic process| |aspartate family amino acid metabolic process| |alpha-amino acid biosynthetic process| |cellular amino acid biosynthetic process| |cell projection| |fibrillar center| |sulfur compound biosynthetic process| |cellular modified amino acid metabolic process| |alpha-amino acid metabolic process| |coenzyme metabolic process| |carboxylic acid biosynthetic process| |organic acid biosynthetic process| |cellular amino acid metabolic process| |sulfur compound metabolic process| |cofactor metabolic process| |drug metabolic process| |small molecule biosynthetic process| |carboxylic acid metabolic process| |oxoacid metabolic process| |organic acid metabolic process| |identical protein binding| |organonitrogen compound biosynthetic process| |small molecule metabolic process| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp272|CHIR-124 0.04μM R06 exp272]]|-2.51| |[[:results:exp67|BVD-523 15μM R02 exp67]]|-2.12| |[[:results:exp152|SGC2043 10μM R03 exp152]]|-1.88| |[[:results:exp23|Nocodazole 0.02μM R00 exp23]]|-1.85| |[[:results:exp225|Celastrol 0.12μM R05 exp225]]|-1.74| |[[:results:exp350|Deferoxamine 11μM R07 exp350]]|2.18| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
