Mucins are O-glycosylated proteins that play an essential role in forming protective mucous barriers on epithelial surfaces and have been implicated in epithelial renewal and differentiation. These glycoproteins also play a role in intracellular signaling. This protein is expressed on the apical membrane surface of epithelial cells that line the mucosal surfaces of many different tissues including the colon, pancreas, prostate, and uterus. The expression of this gene is downregulated in colorectal cancer tissue. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2017]. * **UniProt Summary**: Involved in epithelial cell protection, adhesion modulation, and signaling. May be involved in epithelial cell growth regulation. Stimulated by both cytokine TNF-alpha and TGF- beta in intestinal epithelium. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:17058067}. |SEA| |O-glycan processing| |Golgi lumen| |protein O-linked glycosylation| |stimulatory C-type lectin receptor signaling pathway| |innate immune response activating cell surface receptor signaling pathway| |innate immune response-activating signal transduction| |activation of innate immune response| |protein glycosylation| |macromolecule glycosylation| |glycosylation| |glycoprotein biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of innate immune response| |positive regulation of response to biotic stimulus| |glycoprotein metabolic process| |regulation of cell growth| |immune response-activating cell surface receptor signaling pathway| |regulation of innate immune response| |positive regulation of defense response| |immune response-regulating cell surface receptor signaling pathway| |positive regulation of multi-organism process| |regulation of response to biotic stimulus| |immune response-activating signal transduction| |immune response-regulating signaling pathway| |positive regulation of response to external stimulus| |carbohydrate derivative biosynthetic process| |activation of immune response| |regulation of growth| |molecular function| |regulation of defense response| |regulation of multi-organism process| |positive regulation of immune response| |carbohydrate derivative metabolic process| |regulation of response to external stimulus| |regulation of immune response| |positive regulation of immune system process| |integral component of plasma membrane| |organonitrogen compound biosynthetic process| |regulation of response to stress| |regulation of immune system process| |cellular macromolecule biosynthetic process| |macromolecule biosynthetic process| \\ === CRISPR Data === No hits were found.
