These enzymes have the capacity to generate superoxide and other reactive oxygen species (ROS) and transport electrons across the plasma membrane. The ROS generated by family members have been implicated in numerous biological functions including host defense, posttranlational processing of proteins, cellular signaling, regulation of gene expression, and cell differentiation. The protein encoded by this gene is expressed predominantly in the inner ear and is involved in the biogenesis of otoconia/otolith, which are crystalline structures of the inner ear involved in the perception of gravity.[provided by RefSeq, May 2009]. * **UniProt Summary**: NADPH oxidase which constitutively produces superoxide upon formation of a complex with CYBA/p22phox. Plays a role in the biogenesis of otoconia/otolith, which are crystalline structures of the inner ear involved in the perception of gravity. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:15824103}. |FAD binding 8| |Ferric reduct| |NAD binding 6| |detection of gravity| |otolith development| |response to gravity| |superoxide-generating NADPH oxidase activity| |NADPH oxidase complex| |superoxide anion generation| |temperature homeostasis| |superoxide metabolic process| |reactive oxygen species metabolic process| |detection of external stimulus| |detection of abiotic stimulus| |inner ear development| |ear development| |multicellular organismal homeostasis| |sensory organ development| |detection of stimulus| |oxidation-reduction process| |response to abiotic stimulus| |defense response| |homeostatic process| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp329|Hydroxyurea 100μM R07 exp329]]|1.73| |[[:results:exp464|Calcipotriol 5μM R08 exp464]]|1.82| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
