This protein is involved in excitatory synapse formation. It also plays a role in clustering of alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA)-type glutamate receptors at established synapses, resulting in non-apoptotic cell death of dopaminergic nerve cells. Up-regulation of this gene in Parkinson disease (PD) tissues suggests that the protein may be involved in the pathology of PD. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2009]. * **UniProt Summary**: Likely to play role in the modification of cellular properties that underlie long-term plasticity. Binds to agar matrix in a calcium-dependent manner (By similarity). {ECO:0000250}. |Pentaxin| |regulation of postsynaptic neurotransmitter receptor activity| |cytoplasmic side of plasma membrane| |filopodium| |regulation of neurotransmitter receptor activity| |associative learning| |growth cone| |regulation of nervous system process| |learning| |regulation of signaling receptor activity| |carbohydrate binding| |learning or memory| |cognition| |glutamatergic synapse| |neuronal cell body| |chemical synaptic transmission| |dendrite| |anterograde trans-synaptic signaling| |trans-synaptic signaling| |modulation of chemical synaptic transmission| |regulation of trans-synaptic signaling| |synaptic signaling| |behavior| |regulation of system process| |neuron projection development| |molecular function| |neuron development| |neuron differentiation| |cell-cell signaling| |plasma membrane bounded cell projection organization| |cell projection organization| |nervous system process| |generation of neurons| |neurogenesis| |cell development| |extracellular region| |system process| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp25|Oligomycin-A 2μM R00 exp25]]|-1.86| |[[:results:exp32|Rifampicin 10μM R00 exp32]]|-1.85| |[[:results:exp175|3-Bromopyruvate 7μM R04 exp175]]|1.74| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
