It plays a role in signal transduction by regulating the intracellular concentration of cyclic nucleotides. This protein can hydrolyze both cAMP and cGMP to the corresponding nucleoside 5' monophosphate, but has higher affinity for cAMP, and is more efficient with cAMP as substrate. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2011]. * **UniProt Summary**: Plays a role in signal transduction by regulating the intracellular concentration of cyclic nucleotides. Can hydrolyze both cAMP and cGMP, but has higher affinity for cAMP and is more efficient with cAMP as substrate. May play a critical role in regulating cAMP and cGMP levels in the striatum, a region of the brain that contributes to the control of movement and cognition. {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q8CA95, ECO:0000269|PubMed:17389385}. |PDEase I| |GAF| |cGMP-stimulated cyclic-nucleotide phosphodiesterase activity| |cGMP catabolic process| |negative regulation of cGMP-mediated signaling| |3,5-cyclic-nucleotide phosphodiesterase activity| |cAMP catabolic process| |regulation of cGMP-mediated signaling| |cyclic nucleotide catabolic process| |3,5-cyclic-GMP phosphodiesterase activity| |cGMP binding| |cGMP metabolic process| |regulation of protein kinase A signaling| |cAMP metabolic process| |cAMP binding| |negative regulation of cAMP-mediated signaling| |purine ribonucleotide catabolic process| |ribonucleotide catabolic process| |cyclic nucleotide metabolic process| |purine nucleotide catabolic process| |regulation of cAMP-mediated signaling| |purine-containing compound catabolic process| |nucleotide catabolic process| |nucleoside phosphate catabolic process| |nucleobase-containing small molecule biosynthetic process| |organophosphate catabolic process| |perikaryon| |carbohydrate derivative catabolic process| |purine ribonucleotide metabolic process| |ribonucleotide metabolic process| |purine nucleotide metabolic process| |ribose phosphate metabolic process| |purine-containing compound metabolic process| |nucleobase-containing compound catabolic process| |heterocycle catabolic process| |cellular nitrogen compound catabolic process| |aromatic compound catabolic process| |nucleotide metabolic process| |nucleoside phosphate metabolic process| |organic cyclic compound catabolic process| |negative regulation of intracellular signal transduction| |nucleobase-containing small molecule metabolic process| |small molecule biosynthetic process| |organophosphate metabolic process| |carbohydrate derivative metabolic process| |organonitrogen compound catabolic process| |nucleobase-containing compound biosynthetic process| |heterocycle biosynthetic process| |aromatic compound biosynthetic process| |negative regulation of signal transduction| |organic cyclic compound biosynthetic process| |G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway| |negative regulation of cell communication| |negative regulation of signaling| |negative regulation of response to stimulus| |cellular nitrogen compound biosynthetic process| |small molecule metabolic process| |organic substance catabolic process| |cellular catabolic process| |regulation of intracellular signal transduction| |membrane| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp508|NN-Dimethylsphingosine 2.5μM R08 exp508]]|1.91| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
