The phosphodiesterase 6 holoenzyme is a heterotrimer composed of an alpha, beta, and two gamma subunits. cGMP is an important regulator of rod cell membrane current, and its dynamic concentration is established by phosphodiesterase 6A cGMP hydrolysis and guanylate cyclase cGMP synthesis. The protein is a subunit of a key phototransduction enzyme and participates in processes of transmission and amplification of the visual signal. Mutations in this gene have been identified as one cause of autosomal recessive retinitis pigmentosa. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **UniProt Summary**: This protein participates in processes of transmission and amplification of the visual signal. |PDEase I| |GAF| |rhodopsin mediated signaling pathway| |3,5-cyclic-GMP phosphodiesterase activity| |phototransduction, visible light| |photoreceptor disc membrane| |regulation of rhodopsin mediated signaling pathway| |Wnt signaling pathway, calcium modulating pathway| |phototransduction| |detection of visible light| |detection of light stimulus| |cellular response to light stimulus| |detection of external stimulus| |detection of abiotic stimulus| |non-canonical Wnt signaling pathway| |retina development in camera-type eye| |regulation of G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway| |cellular response to radiation| |visual perception| |sensory perception of light stimulus| |response to light stimulus| |camera-type eye development| |cellular response to abiotic stimulus| |cellular response to environmental stimulus| |regulation of cytosolic calcium ion concentration| |cell-cell signaling by wnt| |Wnt signaling pathway| |eye development| |visual system development| |sensory system development| |cell surface receptor signaling pathway involved in cell-cell signaling| |cellular calcium ion homeostasis| |response to radiation| |calcium ion homeostasis| |cellular divalent inorganic cation homeostasis| |divalent inorganic cation homeostasis| |sensory organ development| |cellular metal ion homeostasis| |metal ion homeostasis| |cellular cation homeostasis| |cellular ion homeostasis| |detection of stimulus| |cation homeostasis| |inorganic ion homeostasis| |cellular chemical homeostasis| |ion homeostasis| |cellular homeostasis| |sensory perception| |regulation of response to external stimulus| |chemical homeostasis| |cell-cell signaling| |response to abiotic stimulus| |G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway| |nervous system process| |homeostatic process| |system process| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp145|PNU96415E 10μM R03 exp145]]|-2.14| |[[:results:exp256|HMS-I1 10μM R06 exp256]]|-1.7| |[[:results:exp125|GSK461364A 0.005μM R03 exp125]]|1.73| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
