POU domain transcription factors bind to a specific octamer DNA motif and regulate cell type-specific differentiation pathways. The encoded protein is primarily expressed in the epidermis, and plays a critical role in keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation. The encoded protein is also a candidate tumor suppressor protein, and aberrant promoter methylation of this gene may play a role in cervical cancer. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been observed for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2011]. * **UniProt Summary**: Transcription factor that binds to the octamer motif (5'-ATTTGCAT-3'). Regulated the expression of a number of genes such as SPRR2A or placental lactogen. |Homeobox| |Pou| |negative regulation by host of viral transcription| |negative regulation of viral transcription| |regulation of viral transcription| |modification by host of symbiont morphology or physiology| |interaction with symbiont| |negative regulation of viral process| |modification of morphology or physiology of other organism involved in symbiotic interaction| |modification of morphology or physiology of other organism| |regulation of viral process| |negative regulation of multi-organism process| |regulation of symbiosis, encompassing mutualism through parasitism| |epidermis development| |sequence-specific DNA binding| |DNA-binding transcription activator activity, RNA polymerase II-specific| |RNA polymerase II proximal promoter sequence-specific DNA binding| |regulation of multi-organism process| |symbiotic process| |interspecies interaction between organisms| |positive regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II| |positive regulation of transcription, DNA-templated| |DNA-binding transcription factor activity, RNA polymerase II-specific| |positive regulation of nucleic acid-templated transcription| |positive regulation of RNA biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of RNA metabolic process| |tissue development| |positive regulation of nucleobase-containing compound metabolic process| |positive regulation of macromolecule biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of cellular biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of gene expression| |positive regulation of biosynthetic process| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp538|ZLN024 50μM R08 exp538]]|-1.89| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
