The protein plays a role in determining whether cells allocated to the pancreatic buds continue towards pancreatic organogenesis or revert back to duodenal fates. The protein is thought to be involved in the maintenance of exocrine pancreas-specific gene expression including elastase 1 and amylase. Mutations in this gene cause cerebellar agenesis and loss of expression is seen in ductal type pancreas cancers. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **UniProt Summary**: Transcription factor implicated in the cell fate determination in various organs. Binds to the E-box consensus sequence 5'-CANNTG-3'. Plays a role in early and late pancreas development and differentiation. Important for determining whether cells allocated to the pancreatic buds continue towards pancreatic organogenesis or revert back to duodenal fates. May be involved in the maintenance of exocrine pancreas-specific gene expression including ELA1 and amylase. Required for the formation of pancreatic acinar and ductal cells. Plays an important role in cerebellar development. Directly regulated by FOXN4 and RORC during retinal development, FOXN4-PTF1A pathway plays a central role in directing the differentiation of retinal progenitors towards horizontal and amacrine fates. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10768861, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15543146}. |HLH| |amacrine cell differentiation| |regulation of neural retina development| |exocrine pancreas development| |regulation of retina development in camera-type eye| |retinoic acid receptor signaling pathway| |retina layer formation| |exocrine system development| |retina morphogenesis in camera-type eye| |E-box binding| |neural retina development| |neuron fate commitment| |pancreas development| |RNA polymerase II distal enhancer sequence-specific DNA binding| |cerebellum development| |metencephalon development| |camera-type eye morphogenesis| |retina development in camera-type eye| |digestive system development| |eye morphogenesis| |hindbrain development| |protein dimerization activity| |intracellular receptor signaling pathway| |transcription factor complex| |cell fate commitment| |sensory organ morphogenesis| |camera-type eye development| |eye development| |visual system development| |sensory system development| |chromatin binding| |gland development| |DNA-binding transcription activator activity, RNA polymerase II-specific| |sensory organ development| |brain development| |head development| |anatomical structure formation involved in morphogenesis| |animal organ morphogenesis| |central nervous system development| |neuron differentiation| |positive regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II| |DNA binding| |generation of neurons| |positive regulation of transcription, DNA-templated| |DNA-binding transcription factor activity, RNA polymerase II-specific| |neurogenesis| |positive regulation of nucleic acid-templated transcription| |positive regulation of RNA biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of RNA metabolic process| |tissue development| |positive regulation of nucleobase-containing compound metabolic process| |positive regulation of macromolecule biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of cellular biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of gene expression| |positive regulation of biosynthetic process| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp317|Geldanamycin 0.015 to 0.05μM on day4 R07 exp317]]|-1.79| |[[:results:exp458|Bisphenol S 100μM R08 exp458]]|-1.77| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
