It may be a functional component of the visual cycle. Mutations of this gene have been associated with severe rod-cone dystrophy, Bothnia dystrophy (nonsyndromic autosomal recessive retinitis pigmentosa) and retinitis punctata albescens. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **UniProt Summary**: Soluble retinoid carrier essential the proper function of both rod and cone photoreceptors. Participates in the regeneration of active 11-cis-retinol and 11-cis-retinaldehyde, from the inactive 11-trans products of the rhodopsin photocycle and in the de novo synthesis of these retinoids from 11-trans metabolic precursors. The cycling of retinoids between photoreceptor and adjacent pigment epithelium cells is known as the 'visual cycle'. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:19846785}. |CRAL TRIO| |CRAL TRIO N| |11-cis retinal binding| |vitamin A metabolic process| |retinol binding| |fat-soluble vitamin metabolic process| |cell body| |retinoid metabolic process| |diterpenoid metabolic process| |terpenoid metabolic process| |vitamin metabolic process| |isoprenoid metabolic process| |visual perception| |sensory perception of light stimulus| |cellular component| |cellular lipid metabolic process| |sensory perception| |lipid metabolic process| |nervous system process| |small molecule metabolic process| |system process| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp464|Calcipotriol 5μM R08 exp464]]|-2.09| |[[:results:exp83|Trametinib 10μM R02 exp83]]|-1.87| |[[:results:exp124|GSK343 3μM R03 exp124]]|-1.78| |[[:results:exp100|NFN1 1μM R03 exp100]]|-1.77| |[[:results:exp513|ONC212 0.15μM R08 exp513]]|1.73| |[[:results:exp231|Epothilone-B 0.0015μM R05 exp231]]|2.03| |[[:results:exp75|MK-1775 0.32μM R02 exp75]]|2.26| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
