The encoded protein plays a major role in mitochondrial function and intracellular cholesterol trafficking. Defects in this gene are a cause of 3-methylglutaconic aciduria with deafness, encephalopathy, and Leigh-like syndrome (MEGDEL). Two transcript variants, one protein-coding and the other non-protein coding, have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2012]. * **UniProt Summary**: Plays an important role in the phosphatidylglycerol remodeling that is essential for both mitochondrial function and intracellular cholesterol trafficking. May catalyze the remodeling of phosphatidylglycerol and be involved in the transacylation- acylation reaction to produce phosphatidylglycerol-36:1. May be involved in bis(monoacylglycerol)phosphate biosynthetic pathway. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:22683713}. |PGAP1| |mitochondria-associated endoplasmic reticulum membrane| |intracellular cholesterol transport| |intracellular sterol transport| |phosphatidylglycerol acyl-chain remodeling| |phosphatidylglycerol metabolic process| |intracellular lipid transport| |cholesterol transport| |sterol transport| |organic hydroxy compound transport| |extracellular matrix| |phospholipid biosynthetic process| |lipid transport| |glycerophospholipid metabolic process| |lipid localization| |extracellular matrix organization| |phospholipid metabolic process| |glycerolipid metabolic process| |extracellular structure organization| |organophosphate biosynthetic process| |lipid biosynthetic process| |molecular function| |organophosphate metabolic process| |cellular lipid metabolic process| |endoplasmic reticulum| |lipid metabolic process| |mitochondrion| |intracellular transport| |establishment of localization in cell| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp405|Tenofovir 10μM R07 exp405]]|1.7| |[[:results:exp116|AICAR 240μM R03 exp116]]|1.78| |[[:results:exp474|CR131-b 0.005μM R08 exp474]]|1.82| |[[:results:exp488|Hippuristanol 0.12μM R08 exp488]]|1.85| |[[:results:exp7|Bortezomib 0.05μM R00 exp7]]|1.89| |[[:results:exp355|Dinaciclib 0.007μM R07 exp355]]|1.92| |[[:results:exp390|Pifithrin-alpha 20μM R07 exp390]]|1.93| |[[:results:exp489|Hippuristanol 0.12μM R08 exp489 no dilution day6]]|2.12| |[[:results:exp246|UM0011500 10μM R05 exp246]]|2.35| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
