Although this gene product is similar to serum- and glucocorticoid-induced protein kinase (SGK), this gene is not induced by serum or glucocorticoids. This gene is induced in response to signals that activate phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase, which is also true for SGK. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2010]. * **UniProt Summary**: Serine/threonine-protein kinase which is involved in the regulation of a wide variety of ion channels, membrane transporters, cell growth, survival and proliferation. Up- regulates Na(+) channels: SCNN1A/ENAC, K(+) channels: KCNA3/Kv1.3, KCNE1 and KCNQ1, amino acid transporter: SLC6A19, glutamate transporter: SLC1A6/EAAT4, glutamate receptors: GRIA1/GLUR1 and GRIK2/GLUR6, Na(+)/H(+) exchanger: SLC9A3/NHE3, and the Na(+)/K(+) ATPase. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:12397388, ECO:0000269|PubMed:12590200, ECO:0000269|PubMed:12632189, ECO:0000269|PubMed:12634932, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15040001, ECO:0000269|PubMed:20511718, ECO:0000269|PubMed:21865597}. |Pkinase| |Pkinase Tyr| |Pkinase C| |sodium channel regulator activity| |potassium channel regulator activity| |positive regulation of transporter activity| |peptidyl-serine phosphorylation| |peptidyl-serine modification| |regulation of transporter activity| |protein serine/threonine kinase activity| |response to oxidative stress| |regulation of cell growth| |regulation of growth| |peptidyl-amino acid modification| |ion transmembrane transport| |protein phosphorylation| |positive regulation of transport| |transmembrane transport| |phosphorylation| |ion transport| |ATP binding| |regulation of cell population proliferation| |intracellular signal transduction| |positive regulation of molecular function| |regulation of transport| \\ === CRISPR Data === No hits were found. ^Gene^Correlation^ |[[:human genes:r:rrm1|RRM1]]|0.431| Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **Essentiality Rank**: 13386 * **Expression level (log2 read counts)**: -1.52 {{:chemogenomics:nalm6 dist.png?nolink |}}
