The encoded protein is normally found in the Golgi but can be proteolytically processed to a soluble form. This protein, which is a member of glycosyltransferase family 29, can use the same acceptor substrates as does sialyltransferase 4A. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **UniProt Summary**: Responsible for the synthesis of the sequence NeuAc- alpha-2,3-Gal-beta-1,3-GalNAc- found in terminal carbohydrate groups of certain glycoproteins, oligosaccharides and glycolipids. SIAT4A and SIAT4B sialylate the same acceptor substrates but exhibit different Km values. {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q11204}. |Glyco transf 29| |monosialoganglioside sialyltransferase activity| |beta-galactoside (CMP) alpha-2,3-sialyltransferase activity| |protein sialylation| |lipid glycosylation| |oligosaccharide biosynthetic process| |sialylation| |keratan sulfate biosynthetic process| |keratan sulfate metabolic process| |oligosaccharide metabolic process| |O-glycan processing| |glycolipid biosynthetic process| |Golgi cisterna membrane| |glycosaminoglycan biosynthetic process| |mucopolysaccharide metabolic process| |aminoglycan biosynthetic process| |glycolipid metabolic process| |liposaccharide metabolic process| |protein O-linked glycosylation| |carbohydrate biosynthetic process| |membrane lipid biosynthetic process| |glycosaminoglycan metabolic process| |aminoglycan metabolic process| |sulfur compound biosynthetic process| |lipid modification| |membrane lipid metabolic process| |protein glycosylation| |macromolecule glycosylation| |glycosylation| |glycoprotein biosynthetic process| |sulfur compound metabolic process| |glycoprotein metabolic process| |carbohydrate metabolic process| |lipid biosynthetic process| |carbohydrate derivative biosynthetic process| |Golgi membrane| |cellular lipid metabolic process| |oxoacid metabolic process| |organic acid metabolic process| |carbohydrate derivative metabolic process| |lipid metabolic process| |organonitrogen compound biosynthetic process| |cellular macromolecule biosynthetic process| |small molecule metabolic process| |macromolecule biosynthetic process| |extracellular region| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp8|Brefeldin A 0.02μM R00 exp8]]|-2| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
