The encoded protein is targeted to Golgi membranes but may be proteolytically processed and secreted. The gene product may also be involved in the increased expression of sialyl Lewis X antigen seen in inflammatory responses. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2011]. * **UniProt Summary**: Catalyzes the formation of the NeuAc-alpha-2,3-Gal-beta- 1,4-GlcNAc-, and NeuAc-alpha-2,3-Gal-beta-1,3-GlcNAc- sequences found in terminal carbohydrate groups of glycoproteins and glycolipids. It may be involved in the biosynthesis of the sialyl Lewis X determinant. {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q91Y74, ECO:0000269|PubMed:8611500}. |Glyco transf 29| |monosialoganglioside sialyltransferase activity| |beta-galactoside (CMP) alpha-2,3-sialyltransferase activity| |protein sialylation| |lipid glycosylation| |sialyltransferase activity| |oligosaccharide biosynthetic process| |sialylation| |keratan sulfate biosynthetic process| |keratan sulfate metabolic process| |oligosaccharide metabolic process| |O-glycan processing| |glycolipid biosynthetic process| |Golgi cisterna membrane| |glycosaminoglycan biosynthetic process| |mucopolysaccharide metabolic process| |aminoglycan biosynthetic process| |glycolipid metabolic process| |liposaccharide metabolic process| |protein O-linked glycosylation| |carbohydrate biosynthetic process| |membrane lipid biosynthetic process| |glycosaminoglycan metabolic process| |aminoglycan metabolic process| |sulfur compound biosynthetic process| |lipid modification| |membrane lipid metabolic process| |protein glycosylation| |macromolecule glycosylation| |glycosylation| |cognition| |glycoprotein biosynthetic process| |sulfur compound metabolic process| |glycoprotein metabolic process| |carbohydrate metabolic process| |lipid biosynthetic process| |Golgi membrane| |carbohydrate derivative biosynthetic process| |cellular lipid metabolic process| |oxoacid metabolic process| |organic acid metabolic process| |carbohydrate derivative metabolic process| |lipid metabolic process| |nervous system process| |organonitrogen compound biosynthetic process| |cellular macromolecule biosynthetic process| |small molecule metabolic process| |macromolecule biosynthetic process| |extracellular region| |system process| |membrane| \\ === CRISPR Data === No hits were found.
