A mutation in this gene is associated with premature ovarian failure. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms. This gene has multiple pseudogenes. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2014]. * **UniProt Summary**: Meiosis specific component of cohesin complex. The cohesin complex is required for the cohesion of sister chromatids after DNA replication. The cohesin complex apparently forms a large proteinaceous ring within which sister chromatids can be trapped. At anaphase, the complex is cleaved and dissociates from chromatin, allowing sister chromatids to segregate. The meiosis- specific cohesin complex probably replaces mitosis specific cohesin complex when it dissociates from chromatin during prophase I. {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:O70576}. |STAG| |meiotic cohesin complex| |cohesin complex| |synaptonemal complex assembly| |synaptonemal complex organization| |synaptonemal complex| |synapsis| |sister chromatid cohesion| |chromosome, centromeric region| |homologous chromosome segregation| |chromosome organization involved in meiotic cell cycle| |meiotic chromosome segregation| |meiosis I| |meiosis I cell cycle process| |chromatin| |sister chromatid segregation| |meiotic nuclear division| |meiotic cell cycle process| |nuclear chromosome segregation| |meiotic cell cycle| |chromosome segregation| |nuclear division| |organelle fission| |chromatin binding| |cell cycle process| |chromosome organization| |cell cycle| |reproductive process| |reproduction| |extracellular space| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp214|2-Deoxy-D-glucose 800μM R05 exp214]]|-1.76| |[[:results:exp212|Phenformin 20μM R05 exp212]]|-1.73| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
