Receptors of this family have a short extracellular N-terminus, seven transmembrane helices, three extracellular loops and three intracellular loops, and an intracellular C-terminus. Members of this family are expressed in a subset of taste receptor cells, where they function in bitter taste reception, as well as in non-gustatory cells including those of the brain, reproductive organs, respiratory system, and gastrointestinal system. This gene maps to the taste receptor gene cluster on chromosome 12p13. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2016]. * **UniProt Summary**: Receptor that may play a role in the perception of bitterness and is gustducin-linked. May play a role in sensing the chemical composition of the gastrointestinal content. The activity of this receptor may stimulate alpha gustducin, mediate PLC-beta-2 activation and lead to the gating of TRPM5 (By similarity). {ECO:0000250}. |TAS2R| |bitter taste receptor activity| |detection of chemical stimulus involved in sensory perception of bitter taste| |sensory perception of bitter taste| |detection of chemical stimulus involved in sensory perception of taste| |sensory perception of taste| |detection of chemical stimulus involved in sensory perception| |detection of chemical stimulus| |sensory perception of chemical stimulus| |detection of stimulus involved in sensory perception| |detection of stimulus| |G protein-coupled receptor activity| |sensory perception| |G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway| |nervous system process| |system process| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp321|ABT-702 5μM plus Deferoxamine 11μM R07 exp321]]|-2.05| |[[:results:exp503|Mitomycin-C 0.06μM R08 exp503]]|-1.81| |[[:results:exp35|TRAIL 5ng/ml R00 exp35]]|1.73| |[[:results:exp132|Metformin 40μM R03 exp132]]|1.81| |[[:results:exp96|BI-2536 0.02μM R03 exp96]]|1.82| |[[:results:exp60|Vinblastine 0.002μM R01 exp60]]|1.85| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
