This protein is abundantly expressed in endothelial cells, but is not expressed in either B or T cells. The expression of this protein is inducible by TNF and IL-1 alpha. This cytokine is a ligand for receptor TNFRSF25 and decoy receptor TNFRSF21/DR6. It can activate NF-kappaB and MAP kinases, and acts as an autocrine factor to induce apoptosis in endothelial cells. This cytokine is also found to inhibit endothelial cell proliferation, and thus may function as an angiogenesis inhibitor. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2011]. * **UniProt Summary**: Receptor for TNFRSF25 and TNFRSF6B. Mediates activation of NF-kappa-B. Inhibits vascular endothelial growth and angiogenesis (in vitro). Promotes activation of caspases and apoptosis. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10597252, ECO:0000269|PubMed:11911831, ECO:0000269|PubMed:11923219, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9872942}. |TNF| |cytokine metabolic process| |activation of NF-kappaB-inducing kinase activity| |tumor necrosis factor receptor binding| |positive regulation of NIK/NF-kappaB signaling| |NIK/NF-kappaB signaling| |activation of cysteine-type endopeptidase activity involved in apoptotic process| |regulation of NIK/NF-kappaB signaling| |tumor necrosis factor-mediated signaling pathway| |positive regulation of cysteine-type endopeptidase activity involved in apoptotic process| |positive regulation of cysteine-type endopeptidase activity| |positive regulation of endopeptidase activity| |cytokine activity| |positive regulation of peptidase activity| |regulation of cysteine-type endopeptidase activity involved in apoptotic process| |cellular response to tumor necrosis factor| |regulation of cysteine-type endopeptidase activity| |response to tumor necrosis factor| |activation of protein kinase activity| |signaling receptor binding| |positive regulation of proteolysis| |regulation of endopeptidase activity| |regulation of peptidase activity| |positive regulation of protein kinase activity| |positive regulation of kinase activity| |positive regulation of apoptotic process| |positive regulation of programmed cell death| |positive regulation of transferase activity| |cytokine-mediated signaling pathway| |positive regulation of cell death| |regulation of proteolysis| |positive regulation of hydrolase activity| |regulation of protein kinase activity| |regulation of kinase activity| |apoptotic process| |regulation of transferase activity| |cellular response to cytokine stimulus| |positive regulation of protein phosphorylation| |positive regulation of intracellular signal transduction| |programmed cell death| |positive regulation of phosphorylation| |cell death| |response to cytokine| |positive regulation of phosphorus metabolic process| |positive regulation of phosphate metabolic process| |positive regulation of protein modification process| |regulation of hydrolase activity| |integral component of plasma membrane| |positive regulation of catalytic activity| |regulation of protein phosphorylation| |regulation of apoptotic process| |regulation of programmed cell death| |regulation of phosphorylation| |extracellular space| |positive regulation of cellular protein metabolic process| |positive regulation of signal transduction| |regulation of cell death| |intracellular signal transduction| |positive regulation of protein metabolic process| |positive regulation of molecular function| |regulation of phosphate metabolic process| |regulation of phosphorus metabolic process| |positive regulation of cell communication| |positive regulation of signaling| |regulation of intracellular signal transduction| |regulation of protein modification process| |immune response| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp80|RO-3307 4.7μM R02 exp80]]|-1.8| |[[:results:exp393|Resminostat 0.5μM R07 exp393]]|1.91| |[[:results:exp365|I-BRD9 4μM R07 exp365]]|2.25| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
