The encoded enzyme catalyzes the transfer of glucuronic acid from uridine diphosphoglucuronic acid to a diverse array of substrates including steroid hormones and lipid-soluble drugs. This process, known as glucuronidation, is an intermediate step in the metabolism of steroids. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. While both isoforms are targeted to the endoplasmic reticulum, only the longer isoform appears to be active. [provided by RefSeq, May 2011]. * **UniProt Summary**: UDPGTs are of major importance in the conjugation and subsequent elimination of potentially toxic xenobiotics and endogenous compounds. This isozyme has glucuronidating capacity with steroid substrates such as 5-beta-androstane 3-alpha,17-beta- diol, estradiol, ADT, eugenol and bile acids. Only isoform 1 seems to be active. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:11300766}. |UDPGT| |xenobiotic glucuronidation| |cellular glucuronidation| |UDP-glycosyltransferase activity| |glucuronate metabolic process| |uronic acid metabolic process| |nuclear outer membrane| |glucuronosyltransferase activity| |xenobiotic metabolic process| |cellular response to xenobiotic stimulus| |monosaccharide metabolic process| |steroid metabolic process| |response to xenobiotic stimulus| |carbohydrate metabolic process| |monocarboxylic acid metabolic process| |intracellular membrane-bounded organelle| |carboxylic acid metabolic process| |endoplasmic reticulum membrane| |oxoacid metabolic process| |endoplasmic reticulum| |organic acid metabolic process| |lipid metabolic process| |small molecule metabolic process| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp504|MK2206 4μM R08 exp504]]|-2.05| |[[:results:exp409|THZ531 0.11μM R07 exp409]]|-1.95| |[[:results:exp242|Radicicol 0.16μM R05 exp242]]|-1.9| |[[:results:exp58|UM131593 0.1μM R01 exp58]]|1.78| |[[:results:exp41|BI-2536 0.001μM R01 exp41]]|1.92| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
