The protein encoded by this gene binds ubiquinone and participates in the transfer of electrons when ubiquinone is bound. This protein plays an important role in hypoxia-induced angiogenesis through mitochondrial reactive oxygen species-mediated signaling. Mutations in this gene are associated with mitochondrial complex III deficiency. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene. Related pseudogenes have been identified on chromosomes 1, 5 and X. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2011]. * **UniProt Summary**: This is a component of the ubiquinol-cytochrome c reductase complex (complex III or cytochrome b-c1 complex), which is part of the mitochondrial respiratory chain. This component is involved in redox-linked proton pumping. |UCR 14kD| |mitochondrial respiratory chain complex III assembly| |respiratory chain complex III assembly| |ubiquinol-cytochrome-c reductase activity| |mitochondrial respiratory chain complex III| |mitochondrial electron transport, ubiquinol to cytochrome c| |mitochondrial respirasome| |cytochrome complex assembly| |aerobic respiration| |mitochondrial ATP synthesis coupled electron transport| |ATP synthesis coupled electron transport| |mitochondrial respiratory chain complex assembly| |respiratory electron transport chain| |oxidative phosphorylation| |cellular respiration| |electron transport chain| |ATP metabolic process| |energy derivation by oxidation of organic compounds| |mitochondrial inner membrane| |generation of precursor metabolites and energy| |mitochondrion organization| |cellular protein-containing complex assembly| |oxidation-reduction process| |phosphorylation| |protein-containing complex assembly| |protein-containing complex subunit organization| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp485|GSK626616 14μM R08 exp485]]|1.79| |[[:results:exp474|CR131-b 0.005μM R08 exp474]]|1.83| |[[:results:exp360|Genistein 15μM R07 exp360]]|1.92| |[[:results:exp234|Ethanol 0.01 R05 exp234]]|1.98| |[[:results:exp448|Ammonium tetrathiomolybdate 10μM R08 exp448]]|2.31| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
