Alpha actinin is an actin-binding protein with multiple roles in different cell types. In nonmuscle cells, the cytoskeletal isoform is found along microfilament bundles and adherens-type junctions, where it is involved in binding actin to the membrane. In contrast, skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle isoforms are localized to the Z-disc and analogous dense bodies, where they help anchor the myofibrillar actin filaments. This gene encodes a nonmuscle, cytoskeletal, alpha actinin isoform and maps to the same site as the structurally similar erythroid beta spectrin gene. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **UniProt Summary**: F-actin cross-linking protein which is thought to anchor actin to a variety of intracellular structures. This is a bundling protein. |CAMSAP CH| |CH| |efhand Ca insen| |Spectrin| |structural constituent of postsynapse| |actin filament network formation| |actin crosslink formation| |fascia adherens| |vinculin binding| |pseudopodium| |platelet formation| |platelet morphogenesis| |cell-substrate adherens junction assembly| |focal adhesion assembly| |adherens junction assembly| |cell-substrate junction assembly| |platelet aggregation| |brush border| |homotypic cell-cell adhesion| |actin filament bundle assembly| |nuclear receptor transcription coactivator activity| |actin filament bundle organization| |platelet alpha granule lumen| |stress fiber| |double-stranded RNA binding| |actin filament| |adherens junction organization| |postsynapse organization| |ruffle| |cell projection| |ion channel binding| |cell-matrix adhesion| |platelet degranulation| |integrin binding| |Z disc| |platelet activation| |cell junction assembly| |cell-cell junction| |cell-substrate adhesion| |actin filament binding| |cell junction organization| |myeloid cell differentiation| |actin filament organization| |synapse organization| |blood coagulation| |coagulation| |hemostasis| |negative regulation of cellular component movement| |glutamatergic synapse| |focal adhesion| |supramolecular fiber organization| |wound healing| |actin cytoskeleton organization| |regulation of body fluid levels| |cell-cell adhesion| |hemopoiesis| |cell morphogenesis involved in differentiation| |actin filament-based process| |response to wounding| |hematopoietic or lymphoid organ development| |immune system development| |regulated exocytosis| |calcium ion binding| |cell morphogenesis| |exocytosis| |cellular component morphogenesis| |protein homodimerization activity| |anatomical structure formation involved in morphogenesis| |cell adhesion| |biological adhesion| |regulation of cellular component movement| |secretion by cell| |export from cell| |cell activation| |cytoskeleton organization| |secretion| |regulation of apoptotic process| |regulation of programmed cell death| |extracellular space| |positive regulation of nucleic acid-templated transcription| |positive regulation of RNA biosynthetic process| |cell development| |regulation of cell death| |positive regulation of RNA metabolic process| |positive regulation of nucleobase-containing compound metabolic process| |positive regulation of macromolecule biosynthetic process| |extracellular region| |vesicle-mediated transport| |positive regulation of cellular biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of biosynthetic process| \\ === CRISPR Data === No hits were found.
