It influences cellular physiologic processes by regulating the expression of downstream target genes, which are related to growth, survival, and other cellular activities. This protein is phosphorylated at serine 63 in its kinase-inducible domain by serine/threonine kinases, cAMP-dependent protein kinase A, calmodulin-dependent protein kinase I/II, mitogen- and stress-activated protein kinase and cyclin-dependent kinase 3 (cdk-3). Its phosphorylation enhances its transactivation and transcriptional activities, and enhances cell transformation. Fusion of this gene and FUS on chromosome 16 or EWSR1 on chromosome 22 induced by translocation generates chimeric proteins in angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma and clear cell sarcoma. This gene has a pseudogene on chromosome 6. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2010]. * **UniProt Summary**: This protein binds the cAMP response element (CRE) (consensus: 5'-GTGACGT[AC][AG]-3'), a sequence present in many viral and cellular promoters. Binds to the Tax-responsive element (TRE) of HTLV-I. Mediates PKA-induced stimulation of CRE-reporter genes. Represses the expression of FTH1 and other antioxidant detoxification genes. Triggers cell proliferation and transformation. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:18794154, ECO:0000269|PubMed:20980392}. |pKID| |bZIP 1| |bZIP 2| |ATF1-ATF4 transcription factor complex| |response to cobalt ion| |positive regulation of DNA replication| |regulation of DNA replication| |transcription factor complex| |protein-containing complex binding| |positive regulation of neuron projection development| |RNA polymerase II regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding| |positive regulation of neuron differentiation| |response to metal ion| |positive regulation of cell projection organization| |DNA-binding transcription activator activity, RNA polymerase II-specific| |positive regulation of neurogenesis| |protein heterodimerization activity| |regulation of neuron projection development| |response to inorganic substance| |positive regulation of nervous system development| |positive regulation of cell development| |regulation of neuron differentiation| |DNA-binding transcription factor activity| |regulation of plasma membrane bounded cell projection organization| |regulation of cell projection organization| |regulation of neurogenesis| |cellular protein-containing complex assembly| |response to organic cyclic compound| |regulation of nervous system development| |regulation of cell development| |positive regulation of cell differentiation| |identical protein binding| |positive regulation of cellular component organization| |positive regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II| |positive regulation of developmental process| |generation of neurons| |positive regulation of transcription, DNA-templated| |protein-containing complex assembly| |DNA-binding transcription factor activity, RNA polymerase II-specific| |neurogenesis| |positive regulation of nucleic acid-templated transcription| |positive regulation of RNA biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of RNA metabolic process| |positive regulation of multicellular organismal process| |regulation of cell differentiation| |protein-containing complex subunit organization| |positive regulation of nucleobase-containing compound metabolic process| |positive regulation of macromolecule biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of cellular biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of gene expression| |positive regulation of biosynthetic process| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp333|All-trans-Retinoic-Acid 8μM R07 exp333]]|1.83| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
