These enzymes remove bivalent calcium ions from eukaryotic cells against very large concentration gradients and play a critical role in intracellular calcium homeostasis. The mammalian plasma membrane calcium ATPase isoforms are encoded by at least four separate genes and the diversity of these enzymes is further increased by alternative splicing of transcripts. The expression of different isoforms and splice variants is regulated in a developmental, tissue- and cell type-specific manner, suggesting that these pumps are functionally adapted to the physiological needs of particular cells and tissues. This gene encodes the plasma membrane calcium ATPase isoform 2. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **UniProt Summary**: This magnesium-dependent enzyme catalyzes the hydrolysis of ATP coupled with the transport of calcium out of the cell. |Hydrolase| |ATP Ca trans C| |HAD| |Cation ATPase C| |E1-E2 ATPase| |Cation ATPase N| |calcium-transporting ATPase activity involved in regulation of postsynaptic cytosolic calcium ion concentration| |calcium-transporting ATPase activity involved in regulation of presynaptic cytosolic calcium ion concentration| |calcium transmembrane transporter activity, phosphorylative mechanism| |regulation of postsynaptic cytosolic calcium ion concentration| |regulation of presynaptic cytosolic calcium ion concentration| |postsynaptic density membrane| |neuron cellular homeostasis| |GABA-ergic synapse| |regulation of cardiac conduction| |PDZ domain binding| |presynapse| |sensory perception of sound| |sensory perception of mechanical stimulus| |calcium ion transmembrane transport| |calmodulin binding| |regulation of heart contraction| |calcium ion transport| |regulation of blood circulation| |divalent metal ion transport| |divalent inorganic cation transport| |regulation of cytosolic calcium ion concentration| |anatomical structure homeostasis| |glutamatergic synapse| |cellular calcium ion homeostasis| |calcium ion homeostasis| |cellular divalent inorganic cation homeostasis| |divalent inorganic cation homeostasis| |cell junction| |cellular metal ion homeostasis| |inorganic cation transmembrane transport| |regulation of system process| |cation transmembrane transport| |metal ion homeostasis| |cellular cation homeostasis| |metal ion transport| |cellular ion homeostasis| |inorganic ion transmembrane transport| |cation homeostasis| |inorganic ion homeostasis| |cellular chemical homeostasis| |ion homeostasis| |cation transport| |cellular homeostasis| |ion transmembrane transport| |sensory perception| |neuron differentiation| |chemical homeostasis| |transmembrane transport| |ion transport| |nervous system process| |ATP binding| |generation of neurons| |neurogenesis| |homeostatic process| |system process| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |Deferoxamine 11μM R07 exp350|-1.92| |Bafilomycin-A1 0.009μM R08 exp454|1.71| |Benzoate 10000μM R08 exp455|1.8| |Ethambutol 25μM R08 exp481|1.83| |HMS-I1 10μM R06 exp256|1.97| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
