The mammalian calpains include ubiquitous, stomach-specific, and muscle-specific proteins. The ubiquitous enzymes consist of heterodimers with distinct large, catalytic subunits associated with a common small, regulatory subunit. This gene encodes the large subunit of the ubiquitous enzyme, calpain 1. Several transcript variants encoding two different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2010]. * **UniProt Summary**: Calcium-regulated non-lysosomal thiol-protease which catalyzes limited proteolysis of substrates involved in cytoskeletal remodeling and signal transduction. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:21531719, ECO:0000269|PubMed:2400579}. |Peptidase C2| |Calpain III| |mammary gland involution| |self proteolysis| |calcium-dependent cysteine-type endopeptidase activity| |receptor catabolic process| |regulation of NMDA receptor activity| |mammary gland morphogenesis| |regulation of glutamate receptor signaling pathway| |extracellular matrix disassembly| |regulation of neurotransmitter receptor activity| |gland morphogenesis| |tissue remodeling| |receptor metabolic process| |cornification| |ficolin-1-rich granule lumen| |mammary gland development| |regulation of cation channel activity| |regulation of signaling receptor activity| |regulation of macroautophagy| |keratinization| |lysosome| |regulation of ion transmembrane transporter activity| |regulation of transmembrane transporter activity| |keratinocyte differentiation| |regulation of transporter activity| |epidermal cell differentiation| |regulation of autophagy| |regulation of cation transmembrane transport| |extracellular matrix organization| |skin development| |extracellular structure organization| |cellular component disassembly| |gland development| |epidermis development| |focal adhesion| |regulation of ion transmembrane transport| |neutrophil degranulation| |neutrophil activation involved in immune response| |neutrophil mediated immunity| |neutrophil activation| |granulocyte activation| |leukocyte degranulation| |myeloid leukocyte mediated immunity| |myeloid cell activation involved in immune response| |regulation of transmembrane transport| |myeloid leukocyte activation| |leukocyte activation involved in immune response| |cell activation involved in immune response| |epithelial cell differentiation| |regulation of ion transport| |regulated exocytosis| |calcium ion binding| |leukocyte mediated immunity| |exocytosis| |regulation of cellular catabolic process| |positive regulation of cell population proliferation| |leukocyte activation| |animal organ morphogenesis| |regulation of catabolic process| |secretion by cell| |export from cell| |macromolecule catabolic process| |programmed cell death| |cell activation| |cell death| |immune effector process| |epithelium development| |secretion| |mitochondrion| |proteolysis| |regulation of cell population proliferation| |tissue development| |organic substance catabolic process| |cellular catabolic process| |regulation of transport| |immune response| |extracellular region| |vesicle-mediated transport| |membrane| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |YM155 0.0002μM R01 exp61|1.72| |GSK-J4 1.5μM R08 exp441|1.76| |1-Methyl-nicotinamide-chloride 1000μM R03 exp113|1.81| |Suberoylanilide-Hydroxamic-Acid 0.02μM R01 exp53|1.88| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
