The encoded enzyme synthesizes 18-carbon (C18) ceramide in brain neurons. Elevated expression of this gene may be associated with increased longevity, while decreased expression of this gene may be associated with myoclonus epilepsy with dementia in human patients. This protein is transcribed from a monocistronic mRNA as well as a bicistronic mRNA, which also encodes growth differentiation factor 1. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2016]. * **UniProt Summary**: May be either a bona fide (dihydro)ceramide synthase or a modulator of its activity. When overexpressed in cells is involved in the production of sphingolipids containing mainly one fatty acid donor (N-linked stearoyl- (C18) ceramide) in a fumonisin B1-independent manner (By similarity). {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:P27545}. |TRAM LAG1 CLN8| |cellular response to dithiothreitol| |response to dithiothreitol| |cellular response to UV-A| |cellular response to mycotoxin| |response to UV-A| |response to mycotoxin| |sphingosine N-acyltransferase activity| |negative regulation of telomerase activity| |negative regulation of DNA biosynthetic process| |ceramide biosynthetic process| |regulation of telomerase activity| |cellular response to UV| |ceramide metabolic process| |sphingolipid biosynthetic process| |regulation of DNA biosynthetic process| |cellular response to light stimulus| |negative regulation of DNA metabolic process| |membrane lipid biosynthetic process| |response to UV| |sphingolipid metabolic process| |cellular response to radiation| |membrane lipid metabolic process| |cellular response to toxic substance| |negative regulation of transferase activity| |response to light stimulus| |cellular response to environmental stimulus| |cellular response to abiotic stimulus| |regulation of DNA metabolic process| |cellular response to drug| |response to radiation| |response to toxic substance| |amide biosynthetic process| |lipid biosynthetic process| |Golgi membrane| |intracellular membrane-bounded organelle| |molecular function| |cellular amide metabolic process| |negative regulation of catalytic activity| |endoplasmic reticulum membrane| |cellular lipid metabolic process| |regulation of transferase activity| |endoplasmic reticulum| |response to drug| |cellular response to oxygen-containing compound| |negative regulation of molecular function| |response to abiotic stimulus| |lipid metabolic process| |negative regulation of cellular macromolecule biosynthetic process| |organonitrogen compound biosynthetic process| |negative regulation of nucleobase-containing compound metabolic process| |negative regulation of macromolecule biosynthetic process| |negative regulation of cellular biosynthetic process| |negative regulation of biosynthetic process| |response to oxygen-containing compound| |cellular nitrogen compound biosynthetic process| |membrane| \\ === CRISPR Data === No hits were found.
