The functional diversity of these receptors is defined by the binding of acetylcholine and includes cellular responses such as adenylate cyclase inhibition, phosphoinositide degeneration, and potassium channel mediation. Muscarinic receptors influence many effects of acetylcholine in the central and peripheral nervous system. The muscarinic cholinergic receptor 3 controls smooth muscle contraction and its stimulation causes secretion of glandular tissue. Alternative promoter use and alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants that have different tissue specificities. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2016]. * **UniProt Summary**: The muscarinic acetylcholine receptor mediates various cellular responses, including inhibition of adenylate cyclase, breakdown of phosphoinositides and modulation of potassium channels through the action of G proteins. Primary transducing effect is Pi turnover. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:7565628}. |7TM GPCR Srsx| |7tm 1| |positive regulation of vascular smooth muscle contraction| |saliva secretion| |G protein-coupled acetylcholine receptor activity| |regulation of vascular smooth muscle contraction| |adenylate cyclase-inhibiting G protein-coupled acetylcholine receptor signaling pathway| |acetylcholine binding| |G protein-coupled acetylcholine receptor signaling pathway| |secretion by tissue| |synaptic transmission, cholinergic| |phosphatidylinositol phospholipase C activity| |acetylcholine receptor signaling pathway| |positive regulation of smooth muscle contraction| |positive regulation of vasoconstriction| |response to acetylcholine| |cellular response to acetylcholine| |G protein-coupled serotonin receptor signaling pathway| |G protein-coupled serotonin receptor activity| |neurotransmitter receptor activity| |serotonin receptor signaling pathway| |postsynaptic signal transduction| |positive regulation of muscle contraction| |integral component of postsynaptic density membrane| |smooth muscle contraction| |axon terminus| |regulation of vasoconstriction| |integral component of presynaptic membrane| |regulation of smooth muscle contraction| |positive regulation of blood circulation| |body fluid secretion| |digestive system process| |adenylate cyclase-inhibiting G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway| |cellular response to dopamine| |response to dopamine| |signal transduction involved in cellular response to ammonium ion| |cellular response to catecholamine stimulus| |cellular response to monoamine stimulus| |response to catecholamine| |response to monoamine| |digestion| |cellular response to ammonium ion| |regulation of blood vessel diameter| |regulation of tube diameter| |regulation of tube size| |regulation of muscle contraction| |vascular process in circulatory system| |response to ammonium ion| |basolateral plasma membrane| |signaling receptor activity| |adenylate cyclase-modulating G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway| |regulation of muscle system process| |G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway, coupled to cyclic nucleotide second messenger| |muscle contraction| |regulation of blood circulation| |muscle system process| |glutamatergic synapse| |blood circulation| |circulatory system process| |cellular response to drug| |chemical synaptic transmission| |dendrite| |anterograde trans-synaptic signaling| |trans-synaptic signaling| |synaptic signaling| |regulation of body fluid levels| |regulation of anatomical structure size| |cellular response to organic cyclic compound| |cell junction| |regulation of system process| |cellular response to organonitrogen compound| |cellular response to hormone stimulus| |cellular response to nitrogen compound| |G protein-coupled receptor activity| |response to hormone| |response to organic cyclic compound| |response to organonitrogen compound| |response to drug| |cellular response to oxygen-containing compound| |response to nitrogen compound| |cell-cell signaling| |secretion| |cellular response to endogenous stimulus| |G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway| |integral component of plasma membrane| |response to endogenous stimulus| |response to oxygen-containing compound| |positive regulation of multicellular organismal process| |system process| \\ === CRISPR Data === No hits were found. ^Gene^Correlation^ |[[:human genes:p:polr2j3|POLR2J3]]|0.443| Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **Essentiality Rank**: 9563 * **Expression level (log2 read counts)**: -0.54 {{:chemogenomics:nalm6 dist.png?nolink |}}
