The encoded enzyme catalyzes the sulfation of a nonreducing N-acetylglucosamine residue, and may play a role in biosynthesis of 6-sulfosialyl Lewis X antigen. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2011]. * **UniProt Summary**: Sulfotransferase that utilizes 3'-phospho-5'-adenylyl sulfate (PAPS) as sulfonate donor to catalyze the transfer of sulfate to position 6 of non-reducing N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc) residues within keratan-like structures on N-linked glycans and within mucin-associated glycans that can ultimately serve as SELL ligands. SELL ligands are present in high endothelial cells (HEVs) and play a central role in lymphocyte homing at sites of inflammation. Participates in biosynthesis of the SELL ligand sialyl 6-sulfo Lewis X and in lymphocyte homing to Peyer patches. Has no activity toward O-linked sugars. Its substrate specificity may be influenced by its subcellular location. Sulfates GlcNAc residues at terminal, non-reducing ends of oligosaccharide chains. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:11042394}. |Sulfotransfer 1| |intrinsic component of Golgi membrane| |N-acetylglucosamine 6-O-sulfotransferase activity| |N-acetylglucosamine metabolic process| |glucosamine-containing compound metabolic process| |keratan sulfate biosynthetic process| |sulfotransferase activity| |keratan sulfate metabolic process| |amino sugar metabolic process| |glycosaminoglycan biosynthetic process| |mucopolysaccharide metabolic process| |aminoglycan biosynthetic process| |glycosaminoglycan metabolic process| |aminoglycan metabolic process| |trans-Golgi network| |sulfur compound biosynthetic process| |sulfur compound metabolic process| |carbohydrate metabolic process| |inflammatory response| |carbohydrate derivative biosynthetic process| |Golgi membrane| |Golgi apparatus| |oxoacid metabolic process| |organic acid metabolic process| |carbohydrate derivative metabolic process| |defense response| |organonitrogen compound biosynthetic process| |small molecule metabolic process| |macromolecule biosynthetic process| \\ === CRISPR Data === No hits were found.
