Keratan sulfate helps maintain corneal transparency. Defects in this gene are a cause of macular corneal dystrophy (MCD). [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2010]. * **UniProt Summary**: Sulfotransferase that utilizes 3'-phospho-5'-adenylyl sulfate (PAPS) as sulfonate donor to catalyze the transfer of sulfate to position 6 of non-reducing N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc) residues of keratan. Mediates sulfation of keratan in cornea. Keratan sulfate plays a central role in maintaining corneal transparency. Acts on the non-reducing terminal GlcNAc of short and long carbohydrate substrates that have poly-N- acetyllactosamine structures. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:11352640, ECO:0000269|PubMed:12218059}. |Sulfotransfer 1| |N-acetylglucosamine 6-O-sulfotransferase activity| |N-acetylglucosamine metabolic process| |glucosamine-containing compound metabolic process| |keratan sulfate biosynthetic process| |keratan sulfate metabolic process| |amino sugar metabolic process| |glycosaminoglycan biosynthetic process| |mucopolysaccharide metabolic process| |aminoglycan biosynthetic process| |glycosaminoglycan metabolic process| |aminoglycan metabolic process| |trans-Golgi network| |sulfur compound biosynthetic process| |sulfur compound metabolic process| |carbohydrate metabolic process| |carbohydrate derivative biosynthetic process| |Golgi membrane| |Golgi apparatus| |oxoacid metabolic process| |organic acid metabolic process| |carbohydrate derivative metabolic process| |organonitrogen compound biosynthetic process| |small molecule metabolic process| |macromolecule biosynthetic process| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |PFI-2 4μM R05 exp239|-2.07| |Cycloheximide 0.02μM R00 exp14|-1.95| |NMS-873 0.07μM R07 exp380|1.8| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
