Members of this protein family contain a cyclin box motif and have structural similarity to the cyclins. The encoded protein may play an important role in magnesium homeostasis by mediating the epithelial transport and renal reabsorption of Mg2+. Mutations in this gene are associated with renal hypomagnesemia. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been observed for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2011]. * **UniProt Summary**: Divalent metal cation transporter. Mediates transport of divalent metal cations in an order of Mg(2+) > Co(2+) > Mn(2+) > Sr(2+) > Ba(2+) > Cu(2+) > Fe(2+) (By similarity). {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q3TWN3}. |DUF21| |magnesium ion homeostasis| |magnesium ion transmembrane transport| |magnesium ion transmembrane transporter activity| |magnesium ion transport| |transmembrane transporter activity| |basolateral plasma membrane| |divalent metal ion transport| |divalent inorganic cation transport| |divalent inorganic cation homeostasis| |inorganic cation transmembrane transport| |cation transmembrane transport| |metal ion homeostasis| |metal ion transport| |inorganic ion transmembrane transport| |intracellular membrane-bounded organelle| |cation homeostasis| |inorganic ion homeostasis| |ion homeostasis| |cation transport| |ion transmembrane transport| |chemical homeostasis| |transmembrane transport| |ion transport| |ATP binding| |homeostatic process| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |Aphidicolin 0.04μM R06 exp263|1.7| |Apcin 50 to 100μM on day4 R04 exp176|1.71| |THZ531 0.11μM R07 exp409|1.76| |LY2090314 0.003μM R08 exp499|1.82| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
