The enzyme is important in the regulation of peptides like kinins and anaphylatoxins, and has also been known as kininase-1 and anaphylatoxin inactivator. This enzyme is a tetramer comprised of two identical regulatory subunits and two identical catalytic subunits; this gene encodes the catalytic subunit. Mutations in this gene can be associated with angioedema or chronic urticaria resulting from carboxypeptidase N deficiency. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **UniProt Summary**: Protects the body from potent vasoactive and inflammatory peptides containing C-terminal Arg or Lys (such as kinins or anaphylatoxins) which are released into the circulation. |Peptidase M14| |bradykinin catabolic process| |metallocarboxypeptidase activity| |peptide catabolic process| |regulation of complement activation| |regulation of humoral immune response| |response to glucocorticoid| |drug catabolic process| |protein processing| |response to corticosteroid| |protein maturation| |response to steroid hormone| |regulation of immune effector process| |drug metabolic process| |peptide metabolic process| |cellular amide metabolic process| |zinc ion binding| |response to lipid| |response to hormone| |response to organic cyclic compound| |organonitrogen compound catabolic process| |regulation of immune response| |proteolysis| |response to endogenous stimulus| |extracellular space| |regulation of immune system process| |organic substance catabolic process| |cellular catabolic process| |extracellular region| |gene expression| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |42°C R08 exp539|-1.98| |SB743921 0.001μM R05 exp244|-1.98| |PT-1 25μM R07 exp392|-1.71| |CAY10603 0.55μM R08 exp467|-1.7| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
