The former class is also called phylogenetically-restricted crystallins. The latter class constitutes the major proteins of vertebrate eye lens and maintains the transparency and refractive index of the lens. This gene encodes a taxon-specific crystallin protein that binds NADPH and has sequence similarity to bacterial ornithine cyclodeaminases. The encoded protein does not perform a structural role in lens tissue, and instead it binds thyroid hormone for possible regulatory or developmental roles. Mutations in this gene have been associated with autosomal dominant non-syndromic deafness. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2014]. * **UniProt Summary**: Specifically catalyzes the reduction of imine bonds in brain substrates that may include cystathionine ketimine (CysK) and lanthionine ketimine (LK). Binds thyroid hormone which is a strong reversible inhibitor. Presumably involved in the regulation of the free intracellular concentration of triiodothyronine and access to its nuclear receptors. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:21332720}. |Shikimate DH| |OCD Mu crystall| |thiomorpholine-carboxylate dehydrogenase activity| |thyroid hormone binding| |thyroid hormone transport| |hormone binding| |lysine catabolic process| |lysine metabolic process| |thyroid hormone metabolic process| |aspartate family amino acid catabolic process| |NADP binding| |peroxisomal matrix| |aspartate family amino acid metabolic process| |hormone transport| |phenol-containing compound metabolic process| |alpha-amino acid catabolic process| |cellular amino acid catabolic process| |sensory perception of sound| |sensory perception of mechanical stimulus| |cellular modified amino acid metabolic process| |hormone metabolic process| |alpha-amino acid metabolic process| |transcription corepressor activity| |carboxylic acid catabolic process| |organic acid catabolic process| |cellular amino acid metabolic process| |small molecule catabolic process| |organic hydroxy compound metabolic process| |regulation of hormone levels| |negative regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II| |protein homodimerization activity| |carboxylic acid metabolic process| |oxidation-reduction process| |sensory perception| |oxoacid metabolic process| |organic acid metabolic process| |organonitrogen compound catabolic process| |negative regulation of transcription, DNA-templated| |negative regulation of nucleic acid-templated transcription| |negative regulation of RNA biosynthetic process| |mitochondrion| |negative regulation of RNA metabolic process| |nervous system process| |negative regulation of cellular macromolecule biosynthetic process| |negative regulation of nucleobase-containing compound metabolic process| |negative regulation of macromolecule biosynthetic process| |negative regulation of cellular biosynthetic process| |negative regulation of biosynthetic process| |negative regulation of gene expression| |small molecule metabolic process| |organic substance catabolic process| |cellular catabolic process| |system process| \\ === CRISPR Data === No hits were found.
