The gene is located at the growth hormone locus on chromosome 17 along with four other related genes in the same transcriptional orientation; an arrangement which is thought to have evolved by a series of gene duplications. Although the five genes share a remarkably high degree of sequence identity, they are expressed selectively in different tissues. Alternative splicing generates additional isoforms of each of the five growth hormones, leading to further diversity and potential for specialization. This particular family member is expressed mainly in the placenta and utilizes multiple transcription initiation sites. Expression of the identical mature proteins for chorionic somatomammotropin hormones 1 and 2 is upregulated during development, although the ratio of 1 to 2 increases by term. Mutations in this gene result in placental lactogen deficiency and Silver-Russell syndrome. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **UniProt Summary**: Produced only during pregnancy and is involved in stimulating lactation, fetal growth and metabolism. Does not interact with GHR but only activates PRLR through zinc-induced dimerization. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:16546209}. |Hormone 1| |growth hormone receptor binding| |growth hormone receptor signaling pathway via JAK-STAT| |endosome lumen| |growth hormone receptor signaling pathway| |cellular response to growth hormone stimulus| |response to growth hormone| |positive regulation of tyrosine phosphorylation of STAT protein| |regulation of tyrosine phosphorylation of STAT protein| |positive regulation of receptor signaling pathway via JAK-STAT| |positive regulation of receptor signaling pathway via STAT| |hormone activity| |regulation of receptor signaling pathway via JAK-STAT| |regulation of receptor signaling pathway via STAT| |vesicle| |growth factor activity| |positive regulation of peptidyl-tyrosine phosphorylation| |regulation of peptidyl-tyrosine phosphorylation| |positive regulation of growth| |cellular response to peptide hormone stimulus| |cellular response to peptide| |response to peptide hormone| |response to peptide| |response to nutrient levels| |transmembrane receptor protein tyrosine kinase signaling pathway| |response to extracellular stimulus| |cellular response to organonitrogen compound| |cellular response to hormone stimulus| |cellular response to nitrogen compound| |regulation of growth| |enzyme linked receptor protein signaling pathway| |response to hormone| |response to organonitrogen compound| |endoplasmic reticulum| |positive regulation of protein phosphorylation| |cellular response to oxygen-containing compound| |positive regulation of phosphorylation| |response to nitrogen compound| |positive regulation of phosphate metabolic process| |positive regulation of phosphorus metabolic process| |cellular response to endogenous stimulus| |positive regulation of protein modification process| |regulation of protein phosphorylation| |response to endogenous stimulus| |response to oxygen-containing compound| |regulation of phosphorylation| |extracellular space| |positive regulation of cellular protein metabolic process| |positive regulation of signal transduction| |positive regulation of protein metabolic process| |regulation of phosphate metabolic process| |regulation of phosphorus metabolic process| |positive regulation of cell communication| |positive regulation of signaling| |regulation of protein modification process| |extracellular region| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp47|Lapatinib 5μM R01 exp47]]|1.77| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
