The encoded protein acts as a transcriptional repressor and may be involved in epithelial differentiation and carcinogenesis. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2011]. * **UniProt Summary**: Transcriptional activator that may play a role in regulating epithelial cell differentiation and proliferation. May act as a repressor for a specific subset of ETS/AP-1-responsive genes and as a modulator of the nuclear response to mitogen- activated protein kinase signaling cascades. Binds to DNA sequences containing the consensus nucleotide core sequence GGAA. Involved in regulation of TNFRSF10B/DR5 expression through Ets- binding sequences on the TNFRSF10B/DR5 promoter. May contribute to development and carcinogenesis by acting as a tumor suppressor gene or anti-oncogene. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10527851, ECO:0000269|PubMed:10644770, ECO:0000269|PubMed:11259407, ECO:0000269|PubMed:12444029, ECO:0000269|PubMed:17027647}. |Ets| |SAM PNT| |epithelial cell proliferation| |DNA-binding transcription activator activity, RNA polymerase II-specific| |transcription by RNA polymerase II| |RNA polymerase II proximal promoter sequence-specific DNA binding| |cell population proliferation| |transcription, DNA-templated| |nucleic acid-templated transcription| |RNA biosynthetic process| |DNA-binding transcription factor activity| |epithelial cell differentiation| |Golgi apparatus| |nucleobase-containing compound biosynthetic process| |epithelium development| |heterocycle biosynthetic process| |aromatic compound biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II| |organic cyclic compound biosynthetic process| |DNA binding| |positive regulation of transcription, DNA-templated| |DNA-binding transcription factor activity, RNA polymerase II-specific| |cellular nitrogen compound biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of nucleic acid-templated transcription| |positive regulation of RNA biosynthetic process| |RNA metabolic process| |cellular macromolecule biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of RNA metabolic process| |tissue development| |macromolecule biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of nucleobase-containing compound metabolic process| |positive regulation of macromolecule biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of cellular biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of gene expression| |gene expression| |positive regulation of biosynthetic process| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |BRD2 inhibitor II 20μM R07 exp341|-1.91| |Trichostatin-A 0.06μM R07 exp415|-1.84| |Nicotinate 1000μM R03 exp140|1.79| |Trametinib 10μM R02 exp83|1.84| |UNC1999 2μM R03 exp155|1.87| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
