This antigen is expressed on most normal epithelial cells and gastrointestinal carcinomas and functions as a homotypic calcium-independent cell adhesion molecule. The antigen is being used as a target for immunotherapy treatment of human carcinomas. Mutations in this gene result in congenital tufting enteropathy. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2008]. * **UniProt Summary**: May act as a physical homophilic interaction molecule between intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) and intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) at the mucosal epithelium for providing immunological barrier as a first line of defense against mucosal infection. Plays a role in embryonic stem cells proliferation and differentiation. Up-regulates the expression of FABP5, MYC and cyclins A and E. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:15195135, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15922867, ECO:0000269|PubMed:19785009, ECO:0000269|PubMed:20064925}. |Thyroglobulin 1| |negative regulation of cell-cell adhesion mediated by cadherin| |regulation of cell-cell adhesion mediated by cadherin| |cadherin binding involved in cell-cell adhesion| |signal transduction involved in regulation of gene expression| |positive regulation of stem cell proliferation| |lateral plasma membrane| |regulation of stem cell proliferation| |ureteric bud development| |mesonephric epithelium development| |mesonephric tubule development| |mesonephros development| |bicellular tight junction| |kidney epithelium development| |stem cell differentiation| |negative regulation of cell-cell adhesion| |basolateral plasma membrane| |cell-cell adhesion via plasma-membrane adhesion molecules| |protein-containing complex binding| |kidney development| |negative regulation of cell adhesion| |renal system development| |apical plasma membrane| |urogenital system development| |leukocyte migration| |regulation of cell-cell adhesion| |cell-cell adhesion| |positive regulation of cell motility| |positive regulation of cellular component movement| |positive regulation of locomotion| |cell surface| |regulation of cell adhesion| |tube development| |negative regulation of apoptotic process| |negative regulation of programmed cell death| |regulation of cell motility| |positive regulation of cell population proliferation| |cell adhesion| |biological adhesion| |cell migration| |regulation of locomotion| |regulation of cellular component movement| |negative regulation of cell death| |cell motility| |localization of cell| |epithelium development| |positive regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II| |locomotion| |positive regulation of transcription, DNA-templated| |regulation of apoptotic process| |movement of cell or subcellular component| |regulation of programmed cell death| |regulation of cell population proliferation| |positive regulation of nucleic acid-templated transcription| |positive regulation of RNA biosynthetic process| |regulation of cell death| |positive regulation of RNA metabolic process| |tissue development| |positive regulation of nucleobase-containing compound metabolic process| |positive regulation of macromolecule biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of cellular biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of gene expression| |positive regulation of biosynthetic process| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp441|GSK-J4 1.5μM R08 exp441]]|1.73| |[[:results:exp12|Chloramphenicol 2μM R00 exp12]]|1.91| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
