This factor circulates in plasma, and is converted to the active form by the release of the activation peptide by thrombin during coagulation. This generates a heavy chain and a light chain which are held together by calcium ions. The activated protein is a cofactor that participates with activated coagulation factor X to activate prothrombin to thrombin. Defects in this gene result in either an autosomal recessive hemorrhagic diathesis or an autosomal dominant form of thrombophilia, which is known as activated protein C resistance. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2008]. * **UniProt Summary**: Central regulator of hemostasis. It serves as a critical cofactor for the prothrombinase activity of factor Xa that results in the activation of prothrombin to thrombin. |Cu-oxidase 3| |F5 F8 type C| |COPII-coated ER to Golgi transport vesicle| |extracellular vesicle| |copper ion binding| |vesicle targeting, rough ER to cis-Golgi| |COPII vesicle coating| |platelet alpha granule lumen| |vesicle coating| |COPII-coated vesicle budding| |vesicle targeting, to, from or within Golgi| |endoplasmic reticulum-Golgi intermediate compartment membrane| |Golgi vesicle budding| |vesicle targeting| |vesicle budding from membrane| |platelet degranulation| |establishment of vesicle localization| |vesicle localization| |endoplasmic reticulum to Golgi vesicle-mediated transport| |blood coagulation| |coagulation| |hemostasis| |vesicle organization| |endoplasmic reticulum lumen| |post-translational protein modification| |establishment of organelle localization| |Golgi vesicle transport| |blood circulation| |circulatory system process| |wound healing| |regulation of body fluid levels| |response to wounding| |organelle localization| |Golgi membrane| |regulated exocytosis| |exocytosis| |membrane organization| |secretion by cell| |export from cell| |secretion| |intracellular transport| |protein-containing complex assembly| |extracellular space| |establishment of localization in cell| |protein-containing complex subunit organization| |extracellular region| |vesicle-mediated transport| |system process| |membrane| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp434|Vemurafenib 6.6μM R08 exp434]]|-1.95| |[[:results:exp175|3-Bromopyruvate 7μM R04 exp175]]|1.81| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
