This gene (G6PC) is one of the three glucose-6-phosphatase catalytic-subunit-encoding genes in human: G6PC, G6PC2 and G6PC3. Glucose-6-phosphatase catalyzes the hydrolysis of D-glucose 6-phosphate to D-glucose and orthophosphate and is a key enzyme in glucose homeostasis, functioning in gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis. Mutations in this gene cause glycogen storage disease type I (GSD1). This disease, also known as von Gierke disease, is a metabolic disorder characterized by severe hypoglycemia associated with the accumulation of glycogen and fat in the liver and kidneys.[provided by RefSeq, Feb 2011]. * **UniProt Summary**: Hydrolyzes glucose-6-phosphate to glucose in the endoplasmic reticulum. Forms with the glucose-6-phosphate transporter (SLC37A4/G6PT) the complex responsible for glucose production through glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis. Hence, it is the key enzyme in homeostatic regulation of blood glucose levels. |PAP2| |glucose-6-phosphatase activity| |phosphotransferase activity, alcohol group as acceptor| |hexose phosphate transport| |glucose-6-phosphate transport| |phosphate ion binding| |urate metabolic process| |phosphorylated carbohydrate dephosphorylation| |glycogen catabolic process| |glucan catabolic process| |cellular polysaccharide catabolic process| |response to food| |polysaccharide catabolic process| |glucose 6-phosphate metabolic process| |cellular carbohydrate catabolic process| |gluconeogenesis| |hexose biosynthetic process| |glycogen metabolic process| |cellular glucan metabolic process| |glucan metabolic process| |monosaccharide biosynthetic process| |energy reserve metabolic process| |carbohydrate derivative transport| |triglyceride metabolic process| |cellular polysaccharide metabolic process| |cholesterol homeostasis| |sterol homeostasis| |multicellular organism growth| |polysaccharide metabolic process| |acylglycerol metabolic process| |neutral lipid metabolic process| |integral component of endoplasmic reticulum membrane| |glucose metabolic process| |carbohydrate catabolic process| |organophosphate ester transport| |carbohydrate biosynthetic process| |lipid homeostasis| |hexose metabolic process| |cellular carbohydrate metabolic process| |glucose homeostasis| |carbohydrate homeostasis| |monosaccharide metabolic process| |energy derivation by oxidation of organic compounds| |steroid metabolic process| |dephosphorylation| |purine-containing compound metabolic process| |glycerolipid metabolic process| |developmental growth| |growth| |generation of precursor metabolites and energy| |organic anion transport| |carbohydrate metabolic process| |response to nutrient levels| |response to extracellular stimulus| |anion transport| |small molecule biosynthetic process| |organophosphate metabolic process| |endoplasmic reticulum membrane| |cellular lipid metabolic process| |oxidation-reduction process| |organic acid metabolic process| |carbohydrate derivative metabolic process| |macromolecule catabolic process| |chemical homeostasis| |lipid metabolic process| |ion transport| |homeostatic process| |small molecule metabolic process| |organic substance catabolic process| |cellular catabolic process| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp155|UNC1999 2μM R03 exp155]]|1.87| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
