Members of this family initiate mucin-type O-glycoslation of peptides in the Golgi apparatus. The encoded protein may be involved in O-linked glycosylation of the immunoglobulin A1 hinge region. This gene may influence triglyceride levels, and may be involved Type 2 diabetes, as well as several types of cancer. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, May 2014]. * **UniProt Summary**: Catalyzes the initial reaction in O-linked oligosaccharide biosynthesis, the transfer of an N-acetyl-D- galactosamine residue to a serine or threonine residue on the protein receptor. Has a broad spectrum of substrates for peptides such as EA2, Muc5AC, Muc1a, Muc1b. Probably involved in O-linked glycosylation of the immunoglobulin A1 (IgA1) hinge region. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:12438318, ECO:0000269|PubMed:16434399, ECO:0000269|PubMed:7592619, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9295285}. |Ricin B lectin| |Glycos transf 2| |immunoglobulin biosynthetic process| |protein O-linked glycosylation via threonine| |protein O-linked glycosylation via serine| |polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase activity| |Golgi stack| |O-glycan processing| |manganese ion binding| |integral component of Golgi membrane| |peptidyl-threonine modification| |Golgi cisterna membrane| |protein O-linked glycosylation| |immunoglobulin production| |carbohydrate binding| |production of molecular mediator of immune response| |peptidyl-serine modification| |macromolecule glycosylation| |protein glycosylation| |glycosylation| |glycoprotein biosynthetic process| |glycoprotein metabolic process| |carbohydrate derivative biosynthetic process| |Golgi membrane| |perinuclear region of cytoplasm| |peptidyl-amino acid modification| |endoplasmic reticulum membrane| |Golgi apparatus| |carbohydrate derivative metabolic process| |organonitrogen compound biosynthetic process| |cellular macromolecule biosynthetic process| |macromolecule biosynthetic process| |extracellular region| |membrane| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |Vemurafenib 6.6μM R02 exp89|-2.17| |Pyridostatin 4μM R05 exp240|-1.82| |A-395N 10μM R05 exp219|1.71| |∆-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol 30μM R08 exp445|1.79| |Geldanamycin 0.015 to 0.05μM on day4 R07 exp317|2.01| |Golgicide-A 4μM R03 exp122|3.84| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
