The encoded protein is a cytoplasmic enzyme catalyzing the reversible reduction of glutathione-protein mixed disulfides. This enzyme highly contributes to the antioxidant defense system. It is crucial for several signalling pathways by controlling the S-glutathionylation status of signalling mediators. It is involved in beta-amyloid toxicity and Alzheimer's disease. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2011]. * **UniProt Summary**: Has a glutathione-disulfide oxidoreductase activity in the presence of NADPH and glutathione reductase. Reduces low molecular weight disulfides and proteins. |Glutaredoxin| |protein deglutathionylation| |glutathione oxidoreductase activity| |glutathione disulfide oxidoreductase activity| |positive regulation of membrane potential| |positive regulation of sodium ion transmembrane transporter activity| |positive regulation of sodium ion transmembrane transport| |nucleobase-containing small molecule interconversion| |positive regulation of sodium ion transport| |regulation of sodium ion transmembrane transporter activity| |regulation of sodium ion transmembrane transport| |cell redox homeostasis| |electron transfer activity| |regulation of sodium ion transport| |positive regulation of ion transmembrane transporter activity| |protein N-terminus binding| |positive regulation of transporter activity| |positive regulation of cation transmembrane transport| |positive regulation of ion transmembrane transport| |electron transport chain| |positive regulation of transmembrane transport| |regulation of ion transmembrane transporter activity| |regulation of transmembrane transporter activity| |positive regulation of ion transport| |regulation of transporter activity| |regulation of cation transmembrane transport| |regulation of metal ion transport| |generation of precursor metabolites and energy| |regulation of membrane potential| |regulation of ion transmembrane transport| |nucleobase-containing small molecule metabolic process| |regulation of transmembrane transport| |regulation of ion transport| |cellular homeostasis| |oxidation-reduction process| |positive regulation of transport| |homeostatic process| |small molecule metabolic process| |positive regulation of molecular function| |regulation of transport| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp264|Arsenate 40μM R06 exp264]]|2.82| ^Gene^Correlation^ |[[:human genes:p:prim1|PRIM1]]|0.417| Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **Essentiality Rank**: 13549 * **Expression level (log2 read counts)**: 6.34 {{:chemogenomics:nalm6 dist.png?nolink |}}
