These receptors are heteromeric protein complexes composed of multiple subunits, arranged to form ligand-gated ion channels. The classification of glutamate receptors is based on their activation by different pharmacologic agonists. The subunit encoded by this gene belongs to a family of AMPA (alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazole propionate)-sensitive glutamate receptors, and is subject to RNA editing (AGA->GGA; R->G). Alternative splicing at this locus results in different isoforms, which may vary in their signal transduction properties. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **UniProt Summary**: Receptor for glutamate that functions as ligand-gated ion channel in the central nervous system and plays an important role in excitatory synaptic transmission. L-glutamate acts as an excitatory neurotransmitter at many synapses in the central nervous system. Binding of the excitatory neurotransmitter L- glutamate induces a conformation change, leading to the opening of the cation channel, and thereby converts the chemical signal to an electrical impulse. The receptor then desensitizes rapidly and enters a transient inactive state, characterized by the presence of bound agonist. In the presence of CACNG4 or CACNG7 or CACNG8, shows resensitization which is characterized by a delayed accumulation of current flux upon continued application of glutamate. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:21172611}. |ANF receptor| |Lig chan-Glu bd| |SBP bac 3| |Lig chan| |AMPA glutamate receptor activity| |parallel fiber to Purkinje cell synapse| |ionotropic glutamate receptor signaling pathway| |AMPA glutamate receptor complex| |transmitter-gated ion channel activity involved in regulation of postsynaptic membrane potential| |regulation of NMDA receptor activity| |glutamate receptor signaling pathway| |regulation of glutamate receptor signaling pathway| |endocytic vesicle membrane| |regulation of neurotransmitter receptor activity| |amyloid-beta binding| |regulation of postsynaptic membrane potential| |regulation of cation channel activity| |regulation of signaling receptor activity| |postsynaptic membrane| |regulation of ion transmembrane transporter activity| |regulation of transmembrane transporter activity| |regulation of transporter activity| |regulation of cation transmembrane transport| |regulation of membrane potential| |regulation of ion transmembrane transport| |cell junction| |regulation of transmembrane transport| |regulation of ion transport| |ion transmembrane transport| |transmembrane transport| |ion transport| |regulation of transport| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp527|Tanespimycin 14μM R08 exp527]]|-1.75| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
