Glutamatergic neurotransmission is involved in most aspects of normal brain function and can be perturbed in many neuropathologic conditions. The metabotropic glutamate receptors are a family of G protein-coupled receptors, that have been divided into 3 groups on the basis of sequence homology, putative signal transduction mechanisms, and pharmacologic properties. Group I includes GRM1 and GRM5 and these receptors have been shown to activate phospholipase C. Group II includes GRM2 and GRM3 while Group III includes GRM4, GRM6, GRM7 and GRM8. Group II and III receptors are linked to the inhibition of the cyclic AMP cascade but differ in their agonist selectivities. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2012]. * **UniProt Summary**: G-protein coupled receptor for glutamate. Ligand binding causes a conformation change that triggers signaling via guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) and modulates the activity of down-stream effectors, such as adenylate cyclase. Signaling inhibits adenylate cyclase activity (By similarity). Signaling stimulates TRPM1 channel activity and Ca(2+) uptake. Required for normal vision. {ECO:0000250, ECO:0000269|PubMed:23452348}. |7tm 3| |NCD3G| |ANF receptor| |new growing cell tip| |adenylate cyclase inhibiting G protein-coupled glutamate receptor activity| |adenylate cyclase-inhibiting G protein-coupled glutamate receptor signaling pathway| |G protein-coupled glutamate receptor signaling pathway| |glutamate receptor activity| |detection of light stimulus involved in visual perception| |detection of light stimulus involved in sensory perception| |positive regulation of calcium ion import| |regulation of calcium ion import| |glutamate receptor signaling pathway| |detection of visible light| |detection of light stimulus| |regulation of synaptic transmission, glutamatergic| |presynaptic membrane| |adenylate cyclase-inhibiting G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway| |detection of external stimulus| |positive regulation of calcium ion transport| |detection of abiotic stimulus| |retina development in camera-type eye| |locomotory behavior| |adenylate cyclase-modulating G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway| |visual perception| |sensory perception of light stimulus| |G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway, coupled to cyclic nucleotide second messenger| |regulation of calcium ion transport| |positive regulation of ion transport| |response to light stimulus| |camera-type eye development| |eye development| |visual system development| |sensory system development| |regulation of metal ion transport| |anterograde trans-synaptic signaling| |dendrite| |chemical synaptic transmission| |trans-synaptic signaling| |response to radiation| |modulation of chemical synaptic transmission| |regulation of trans-synaptic signaling| |synaptic signaling| |detection of stimulus involved in sensory perception| |sensory organ development| |behavior| |Golgi membrane| |detection of stimulus| |regulation of ion transport| |G protein-coupled receptor activity| |protein homodimerization activity| |endoplasmic reticulum membrane| |sensory perception| |positive regulation of transport| |cell-cell signaling| |response to abiotic stimulus| |G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway| |nervous system process| |integral component of plasma membrane| |regulation of transport| |system process| \\ === CRISPR Data === No hits were found.
